New York Governor's Race Looks Less Sure for Cuomo
Wall Street Journal ^ | September 23, 2010 | Michael Howard Saul

New York Democratic gubernatorial nominee Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday picked up the endorsement of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, though that was tempered by a poll showing his lead over GOP rival Carl Paladino faltering.

In a press conference to announce the mayor's endorsement, Mr. Cuomo, the New York attorney general, sought to tap into the anti-Washington anger that many see as helping his opponent's campaign.

Last week, Mr. Paladino, a little-known businessman from Buffalo who has never held elective office, surprised the state when Republicans overwhelmingly chose him as their nominee over Rick Lazio, a former congressman. best known for his unsuccessful bid against Hillary Clinton in the 2000 U.S. Senate race.

"We are mad as hell," said Mr. Paladino in his victory speech. "The people have had enough."

Mr. Paladino's campaign manager quickly pounced on the Cuomo-Bloomberg partnership, pointing out that both men supported the building of a mosque and Islamic cultural center near the World Trade Center.

Mr. Paladino opposes building the mosque at that location. He also has spoken out against the mayor overturning term limits in pursuit of a third term.

"His Royal Highness opposes the will of the people on the mosque and subverted the will of the people on term limits, so it's no surprise Bloomberg is missing the point on this important election and climbing into the same royal coach as Prince Andrew," Mr. Caputo said.

"One upside to this," Mr. Caputo added, "the two can stop passing Grey Poupon back and forth from their limousines."

Late Wednesday, Mr. Cuomo said, "I am not going to respond to these childish taunts."

Andy No-Stones is a Washington outsider even though the foundation for the housing meltdown was laid under his leadership as the head of HUD, and he therefore has nothing to fear from this man's childish taunts.

May Cuomo go to his political death with all good speed. I could not care less if he should Rest In Peace or not (politically speaking, of course)!

I want to see Paladino come out now and destroy Cuomo. I heard him say on WABC with Mark Simone, a few weeks back, that he has info that will destroy cuomo. Paladino said that Andie has never been vetted; I have info that..... Let the games begin.

Late Wednesday, Mr. Cuomo (responded), “I am not going to respond to these childish taunts.”

Fixed it.

I think it is great to have a non-PC unafraid candidate. I wish there were more of them.

I contacted Palladino’s campaign yesterday and volunteered my time. I should be getting a phone call back today.

I hated Mario Cuomo and I despise his son even more. All fluff, no substance, both of them. For Cuomo to go down in New York would be astounding, and I want to be part of it.

Salmonella-tainted fluff, both of them.

[I want to be part of it.]

It’s people like you who will make a big difference in New York. I left there in ‘76 and never looked back but I still lived there, I’d join you.

Keep the faith.

That Bloomberg, a "Republican", endorses Cuomo speaks volumes.

Mr. Cuomo said, "I am not going to respond to these childish taunts."

- Andy, that is a response and Bloomberg's endorsement is a response.

Cuomo'll respond again and like it. Paladino is inside Cuomo's OODA loop and so are the voters.

The best thing about this year's elections is the absolute terrified befuddlement it's caused among the political class and their press enablers.

They're absolutely discombobulated and there's no such thing as re-combobulation!

The good thing for our side is we're surrounded - we get to shoot in every direction.

It’s refreshing to say the least. I hope New York elects their own Chris Christie this time around.

Please contact me if you’re interested in being added on or taken off the Carl Paladino for Governor ping list. This looks to be a fairly high volume ping list for a while, probably until the election.

What would Gov. Andrew "Cornuto" Cuomo respond to?
