General Motors Co. has resumed contributing to political campaigns, lifting a self-imposed ban on political spending adopted during the auto makers bankruptcy restructuring last year.
GM gave $90,500 to candidates running in the November elections, Federal Election Commission records show. The beneficiaries include midwestern lawmakers, mostly Democrats, who have traditionally supported the industrys legislative agenda on Capitol Hill, including Sen. Debbie Stabenow and Rep. John Dingell of Michigan and Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio.
The list also includes House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R., Va.), who would likely assume a top leadership post if Republicans win control of the House in November.
While its hardly unusual for big companies like GM to make political contributions, GMs situation is different because it is majority-owned by the U.S. government. GM is planning to return to the public stock markets later this year, allowing the U.S. to begin to sell off its roughly 61% stake in the company.

The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Oh wait the Democrats are on the receiving end of this so I guess that makes it OK.
So.......Government Motors is donating government money to its own politicians? Wonderful.
Just wrote Sherod Brown’s office and requested him to return my ‘tax’ money.
This is BS. GM should not be allowed ANY political contributions until the government has totaly divested itself from GM.
ummmmmmmmm
OWNED BY GOVERNMENT? RUNNING ADS??????????
This smells to high heaven
Here’s an idea. Lets close the bankrupt welfare corporation and sell off its assets to real companies. Do we really need GM cars or trucks? Didn’t think so.
An absolute travesty!
What they really mean is, the UAW is donating to Dems?
Government Motors is laundering your tax dollars for use by Democrat candidates...leveling the playing field and redistributing the wealth, doncha know. Can you imagine the Congressional investigations if Republicans were ever caught doing this?
Cantor doesn’t need their (our) help. He should be informed and have it sent back (along with a fork and a note saying “You’re Done.”)
Well, I ws never going to buy a new GM again but now i won’t even consider buying a used GM POS.
How is this not a violation of the Hatch Act?
Indeed. What are the voting provisions that go along with that 61% ownership stake?
WE, the TAX PAYERS (mostly Republicans because 47% of the people pay NO TAXES) own 61% of GM are paying for this crap!!
Still feel good about your recent gift of money to Government Motors? Read this.
Should have bought a Ford.
Well, taking GM from the bondholders at gunpoint and giving it to the UAW was illegal too....but this country is run by the Baraqqi mob nowadays.

We drove the 95 Buick Riviera for 15 years and parked it in the barn with a few other milestone GM vehicles. I'm sure this one will go the distance...
