Romney is the worst possible candidate the Republicans could put up. He effectively neutralizes the two biggest wedge issues against Obama (government-controlled health insurance and taxpayer-funded bailouts of private corporations) because his own record has him in favor of both. His “pro-life” record is thin to the point of transparent. He’s not noted as an illegal immigration hawk. And foreign policy is a big unknown.

So I’m not quite sure on what grounds you think he’s qualified to “take on” Obama and the Democrats. There’s not enough there to differentiate him from them, when running a stark contrast is what is needed.

But hey, if he’s willing to blow another $30-$40 million of his own cash on another futile primary campaign, it’s his money to waste.
