Fox News Poll: Coons Leads O'Donnell By 15 Points In Delaware
TPM ^ | 9/21/10 | Eric Kleefeld

Posted on 09/21/2010 7:57:10 AM PDT by LdSentinal

The new Fox News poll of the Delaware Senate race shows Democratic nominee Chris Coons continuing to enjoy a double-digit lead against Republican Christine O'Donnell.

The numbers: Coons 54%, O'Donnell 39%. The survey of likely voters has a ±3% margin of error. There is no previous Fox News poll of this race. However, this poll was conducted through a Rasmussen offshoot, Pulse Opinion Research, which performs made-to-order robopolls. The previous Rasmussen poll from last week, taken right after O'Donnell's upset win in the primary over moderate Congressman Mike Castle, gave Coons a lead of 53%-42%.

This poll also confirms the conventional wisdom that Republican voters threw away a certain pickup of this seat. The poll asks voters to suppose that Castle had been the GOP nominee -- and in that match-up he leads Coons by a whopping 48%-33%. In addition, only 33% of respondents said that O'Donnell is qualified to be a Senator, to 60% who say she is not qualified. This compares to a 59%-27% margin for Coons, the county executive of Delaware's largest county, which contains a majority of the state's population.

The TPM Poll Average gives Coons a lead of 53.7%-39.3% against O'Donnell. And just for comparison, the average for a Castle-Coons race gives Castle a lead of 46.4%-35.4% over the Democrat.

Wow. Deleware wants a Liberation Theology Marxist for a Senator. Amazing!

How so? Look at Delaware's voting record over the course of recent history.... Now tell me why you think they wouldn't vote for a marxist like Coons? This is why many of us were saying that nominating O'Donnell simply guarantees a loss.

Okay, fine, want to knock out a RINO? It's all good. Want to set up for the future and make a statement that we only nominate conservatives - no matter how unelectable they are in their given district or state? I can see that argument. But people need to realize by going with O'Donnell instead of Castle we really did virtually ensure a loss for the GOP side. She is just not electable in Delaware. At this point we are shooting for a moral victory by keeping it close. Perhaps if O'Donnell doesn't get utterly blown out it will give conservatives hope that a better candidate in a good election cycle might have a prayer.

Again, I can understand the argument that it's better to dump some RINO's, make a statement and lose a few elections. All I am saying is, well, this is Delaware we are talking about and they really will elect a bearded marxist who believes in liberation theology. It is what it is. All the money in the world is not going to save Christine in Delaware.

wait, not follow. You’re saying that just because Coons called himself a bearded marxist in his college newspaper 25 years ago, he may have changed?

Coons should call FOX and thank them. Since no one watches the other networks, it was FOX elitists that trashed Christine.

While the media, some Republicans, and a whole lot of Democrats are focusing on meaningless details about O’Donnell, they are ignoring the substance of her candidacy for Senator, and the Marxism of Coons.

Do the people of Delaware really support Chris Coons who wants to be the newest addition to the liberation theology zealotry in Washington? The people of Delaware are losing their jobs, their homes and their entire hard won way of life because of the Socialist/Marxist philosophy culture of Death represented by Democrats and the current Administration. A vote for Coons is a vote for higher taxes, repressive government, destruction of our culture, and more and more socialism.

But no, let’s talk about a teenager’s experiment with witchcraft, $20,000 rent for office space, and ignore the Trillions of dollars of added dept for us, our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

I hope the Delewarians like their socialism thick and heavy because they’ll get it with Coons. This should serve that idiot Rove well. He’s no friend to conservatism by not supporting this candidate. F*** him and the horse he rode in on.

We were talking on another thread about Christine doing a “Bewitched” ad to make the Obama socialist agenda go away.

>>> Well Fox News since you gave all that free air time to Rove to spread his slanderous attacks against her, this is no surprise.

I’m sure we will see no end of such scapegoating and evasion of responsibility, but the fact is O’Donnell is not an unknown in Delaware. She has run a recent statewide campaign in a SMALL state.

The state being overwhelmingly democrat doesn’t need Rove to define her. They know her well enough to make a judgment. And it seems they have. This may change, but I don’t expect it.

Don’t you think the Republican party could have found a solid conservative with a great resume in Delaware to run for Senate? Little or no baggage? Next go round maybe the party will actually look for good conservatives rather than running RINOs for every other seat. O’Donnell did this on her own, to her credit. None of the conservative lawyer, elder of the church conservative types had the guts to run. She did.

Agree with both of you. This is definitely a winnable race.

However, so far her campaign had been focusing on Kent and Sussex county only. She needs to foray into ‘enemy territory’ of New Castle county.

There are plenty Urquhart signs around here (DE/PA border), but I only saw one smallish O’Donnell sign.

Would love to have Palin/DeMint stumping for O’Donnell in north Wilmington.

He’s more into liberation theology than Obama as well.

I’m not saying the content of the Witchcraft story is important. What was important was the timing. The first post-primary poll showed O’Donnell down 11, which wasn’t that bad actually, if she was gaining momentum. But then Maher dropped his bomb and that was that.

And if the voters are stupid enough to let that sway their decision, then they’ll get what they deserve.

What is the ratio of RATs to Pubs in Delaware? Could that be the difference?

Then why are you supposed “Republicans” do all the trash talking of our OWN candidate?

Maybe it past time for you in the Soreloser club around here to sit down and shut up.

BTW, don't think your feverish efforts to campaign for Castle pre primary are suddenly going to be forgotten. We know what motivates you people here. Sour grapes.

You all have carved out a lose-lose position for yourself here. You might want to rethink your strategy.

She now has millions more than him for her campaign. How that money is spent will determine if this changes.

Yabut yabut...won't the Soros money come fogging in any second?

I’m afraid she’s toast. You just don’t make up 15 pts with a snap of a finger. I would have voted for her in the primary, but that witchcraft story just blunted any positive momentum she had.

The witchcraft story may have been floated too early and will be old news by Election Day, particulalry if she cleans his clock during the debates and has a clear advertizing message. But even if she loses, I would not want Castle as our candidate because we need to send a message to the party leaders that we are no longer going to accept RINOs on the ticket, even if that means defeat in November.

Not just sour grape.

A huge reason they want to see an O’Donnell defeat is they will be able to scream “TOLD YOU SO!” non-stop.

Ratio is pretty hard to covercome, like a 3:2 ratio of Dems to GOP.
