“Some of my Latino friends have said, ‘I’m going to leave the church over this,’ ” said Tony Yapias, director of Proyecto Latino de Utah, a Latino outreach group. “My view is that this is an aggressive way for the L.D.S. church to very effectively use their media power to try to soften up the community. They’re sending a message to their members.”

The Catholic church has adopted a similar stance.

As editor of The Deseret News, he published editorials condemning deficit spending, same-sex marriage and lenient alcohol law

If he's for empowering busybodies to enforce alcohol restrictions, we know he's not a conservative to begin with.

This low life thinks it is somehow nice to continue to allow illegal aliens into come into this country and be predated by other illegals, our own native criminals and unscrupulous business owners? What a vicious animal he is.

I wonder how many of these poor people he pays less than the prevailing wage secure in the knowledge that their last week of labor is free? What is an illegal alien who is told that he is done and not going to be paid for his last week of work going to do? Sue?

The Catholic church has adopted a similar stance.

Yes, it has. The following is a link to the U.S. Bishops' statement before Congress basically asking them for amnesty, welfare, etc for illegals.

Tucson bishop: Illegal immigrants should learn English, ‘get in the back of the line’

Don't be fooled by the headline.

Full text of Bishop Kicanas' testimony can be found at http://www.justiceforimmigrants.org/documents/kicanastest.pdf.

His statement to the House could be right out of
La Raza or any other open borders crowd.

With the exception of abortion, the Cathlic church’s stand on almost every issue is totally in line with the most liberal elements of the Democratic party.

Agree but it’s all about (they represent a vast potential constituency) and you can pick a party on that see congress.

The surest way for "Legal immigrant" quotas to be forced down is to let in a gazillion illegal aliens.

These people ~ Cannon and many members of the RC hierarchy (as well as the leadership elites in many Protestant bodies) HATE ASIANS!

One of the defining issues which makes it easy to separate mere Republicans from Patriots is their view of illegal immigration.

Patriots see illegal immigration as a great evil which allows lawbreakers to enter our beloved country, prey on its citizens, abuse our social safety net, and dilute our culture.

Mere Republicans see illegal immigration as a great boon which drives down the cost of labor and thereby makes business more profitable in the short run.

This fellow may merely be a Republican.

Way too many churches think the taxpayers of the United States should literally feed the world. Any poor person who wants to come in should be permitted to do so. The Catholic Church, unfortuantely, leads the pack. Its Socialism, pure and simple, and it ultimately destroys the productive engines that create wealth. Its no coincidence that the period during which the world as a whole saw the largest increase in wealth and standard of living was when we followed a purer form of Capitalism. Instead of preaching to taxpayers that they should feed the world, these churches should tell their parishoners to thank God for Capitalism every night, and to do what they can to preserve it.

Before you start calling names you should make sure your own position is unassailable. The official web site of the US conference of Catholic Bishops supports illegal immigration, condemns the arizona law, and supports the DREAM act http://www.justiceforimmigrants.org/index.shtml ignoramus!

(BTW I followed my own advice. My position on this is supported by the USCCB's own official web site.)

"Hispanics are the most populous minority group in the country — and they represent a vast potential constituency for the Mormon church, which has already made considerable efforts to develop strong relations with Hispanic communities."

So, I guess the NY Times is celebrating putting self-interest over the law, over the community, over national interest and over the interests of American citizens.

Greed is good. Is that the message?

We must defend the language. They are NOT immigrants. They are NOT interested in becoming Americans. We have laws passed by the elected representatives of the American People to regulate immigration for the benefit of the American People.

The American People did not turn over their sovereignty to the foreigners to make decisions about immigration. You either support law and legal processes or you don't. The NY Times supports lawlessness as does this editor. I guess that mean people can go into the NY Times and this newspaper and move people out, take over their rooms and take whatever they want. Let's try this and see if the NY Times still supports lawlessness.

Greed is good. Is that the message

In the hypocritical world of the MSM oddly enough it is not. The concept of "greed" can ONLY be applied to those hardworking individual taxpayers who want to keep what they labored so hard to produce rather than fund the public trough for politicians to slop the indolent.

When the government or large organization (like a church) wants to rape the taxpayers' wallets to the detriment of the taxpayers and the benefit of some protected class the concept is called "social justice" or some similar such twaddle.

What about those of us who believe illegal immigration is wrong (at least partly) because of the evil it visits on some of the illegal aliens themselves?

Certainly that is not my only reason for being against illegal immigration, but my family were new here once. I don't want to see immigrants brutalized, even illegal ones.

The USCCB has it’s own problems but note how it’s the “us”ccb.

That is not “The Catholic Church”.
