Former top Bush speechwriter Michael Gerson is a Washington Post columnist, and there is never a better time for right-leaning columnists to lean left than in the last weeks of an election season. (See George Will trashing Sen. George Allen in the last weeks of 2006.) His rant also may have granted Gerson a seat on CBS's Face the Nation on Sunday.
Gerson not only denounced Christine O'Donnell as a wacky candidate like Alan Keyes, he denounced "the childish political thought of the Tea Party." He insisted conservatives were like Bolsheviks. Bloggers like Michelle Malkin and talk show hosts like Mark Levin were "unhinged" against Karl Rove.
Gerson wants to suggest that the Tea Party people are unhinged in their rhetoric, and then he compares them to murderous Russian communists. Remember this the next time Gerson agrees with a liberal that Obama shouldn't be smeared with foreign associations.

And the others in the CFR pushed that whole “Islam is a religion of peace” nonsense on us.
We KNOW it is WRONG to put the mosque at Ground Zero.
But our “leaders” are hell bent on telling us that we must not or cannot make sucha moral judgemnt.
It is un-American.
Well, then call me un-American.
That mosque ain’t going there.
Period.
But have you ever seen the agitprop so in-your-face as now?
Yikes—you made me google her—now I get it.
She is a lovely lady, and she is the arena—for us.
God bless her.
It is a time for choosing.
I choose her, the Tea Party, and my fellow Americans who believe in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness with the rights endowed to us by our Creator, not the government.
Let’s roll.
That makes two of us.
Oh, they're not hiding anything worse about O'Donnell. They're hiding something else. Something that would incriminate them personally. It's why they're lashing out at someone who, by all rights, they should be supporting. Something's very wrong here.
The oligarchs own the armed forces. That’s my point. It will not be pretty if real shooting starts.
I'd actually forgotten that, but you're right. He totally blindsided me with that one. I never saw it coming, and was totally surprised by it at the time.
His seemingly pro-illegal stance was so at odds with his stance on the WOT. It was schizophrenic and counter-intuitive to me.
Wow. That needs its own thread.
How on earth did an opinion as heinous as that get past us for so long? Krauthammer has been much admired on the right for years, now. I would have never been a fan of his, had I been aware of that article.
Look at the way Murkowski, Crist, and others are absolutely refusing to let go. You are right, something is off here.
It's as if they expect the "new" candidates to be declared illegitimate any day now and they (Murkowski, Crist and other sore loser types) will be crowned anyway.
...or maybe they losers are just delusional and cannot believe they actually lost.
is gerson another melman?
(not a homosexual but rather has his own personal leftist issues)
Wow. That needs its own thread.

Mo, I think you've nailed it tighter than anyone else on the thread. What you've laid out is becoming clearer and clearer to the majority of Americans, hence their rejection of establishment Republicans, along with the Democrats.
You can read the actual article here.
As it turns out, Gerson is correct. One can see his diagnosis played out in all its embarrassing hysteria by reading FReepers' reactions. Emotional, knee-jerk, and unwilling to hear arguments that go against what they want to hear.
The oligarchs would "own" the armed forces if they were simply mindless automatons, with no thoughts or deeply held convictions and allegiances of their own.
Thankfully, that's not the case. The vast majority of our military people are of the people, and would stand with us, should a tyrannical government attempt to use them to overcome us through force.
I’ve been posting that Krauthammer article for years now in threads where folks get too carried away with adulation for him. I actually like him and respect his intellect, and his courage for the battle he has fought with his physical handicap (he is partially paralyzed and in a wheelchair).
On certain subjects he’s well worth reading and listening to (military and geopolitical issues, the threat of Islam, etc.) but on domestic issues it’s imperative we remember that he has NO interest in the rights and freedoms of Americans and the foundational principles of this country as expressed in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. He is an elitist and he serves the Ruling Class, not the Country Class (as the issue is now being framed).
Bottom line is he’s useful, but never forget what he is and who he serves when evaluating him.
“Alan Keyes was the forerunner. He was Alinskyed by the Obama faction and this same Republican establishment quite some time ago. “
Keyes left the Republican Party two years ago during his presidential run. He did not withdraw his candidacy after John McCain won the necessary 1,191 delegates to the Republican National Convention since he was no longer campaigning for the Republican nomination. Keyes’s campaign website began displaying the Constitution Party’s logo, along with a parody of the trademarked GOP logo in the form of a dead elephant. Keyes confirmed his split from the Republican Party and his intention to explore the candidacy of the Constitution Party. However, he lost the bid for nomination to the Constitution Party as he came second to Chuck Baldwin. But instead of dropping out, Keyes formed a new third party, America’s Independent Party, for his presidential candidacy. In the federal election held on November 4, 2008, Keyes received 47,694 votes nationally to finish seventh. 86% (40,673) of the votes he received were cast in California. Upon losing, Keyes filed a lawsuit on November 14, 2008 against the California Secretary of State, then-President-elect Barack Obama, then-Vice President-elect Joe Biden, and California’s 55 Democratic electors, seeking to challenge Obama’s eligibility for the US Presidency.
Obviously I have no basis to argue the point, except to say that I do not underestimate the power of propaganda to sway the minds of service people to justify attacking their own countrymen. I hope you are right.
You really ought to spend a little quality time talking with active duty and retired military people, if you think that. They'll set you straight in a heartbeat.
I served in the military. I know how training was done to allay the queasiness of those who didn’t want to kill other human beings. I say again, I hope you are right. Or even better, the question of allegiances never has to be put to the test.
