Montana GOP policy: Make homosexuality illegal
Associated Press ^ | 09/18/2010 | MATT VOLZ,

At a time when gays have been gaining victories across the country, the Republican Party in Montana still wants to make homosexuality illegal.

The party adopted an official platform in June that keeps a long-held position in support of making homosexual acts illegal, a policy adopted after the Montana Supreme Court struck down such laws in 1997.

The fact that it's still the official party policy more than 12 years later, despite a tidal shift in public attitudes since then and the party's own pledge of support for individual freedoms, has exasperated some GOP members.

"I looked at that and said, 'You've got to be kidding me,'" state Sen. John Brueggeman, R-Polson, said last week. "Should it get taken out? Absolutely. Does anybody think we should be arresting homosexual people? If you take that stand, you really probably shouldn't be in the Republican Party."

Gay rights have been rapidly advancing nationwide since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Texas' sodomy law in 2003's Lawrence v. Texas decision. Gay marriage is now allowed in five states and Washington, D.C., a federal court recently ruled the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy unconstitutional, and even a conservative tea party group in Montana ousted its president over an anti-gay exchange in Facebook.

But going against the grain is the Montana GOP statement, which falls under the "Crime" section of the GOP platform. It states: "We support the clear will of the people of Montana expressed by legislation to keep homosexual acts illegal."

Montana GOP executive director Bowen Greenwood said that has been the position of the party since the state Supreme Court struck down state laws criminalizing homosexuality in

It also means being free of a mental illness being mainstreamed as normal.

You do realize that all sorts of disabilities are mainstreamed today? And freedom does not mean YOU being free of people you disapprove of. It really doesn't.

They never went through peoples bedrooms. they kept them off the streets. More emotional claptrap by you.

If any sex is happening in the streets, gay or straight, I want them arrested too. In the bedroom? Not so much. And it's not about emotionality; it's about FREEDOM to do what you want in your own home.

What 2 Married people do in the privacy of there bed is between them, because the Union is accepted as Normal, Healthy and Holy for the majority.

This is saying you do not want freedom here; you want to choose the lifestyle for others.

For instance, you are saying that the public or the police have a right to control two heterosexual people who are not married who are in a bed together. Really??

It’s all about public promotion of homosexuality. It is not about what people do in private. You can’t not know this.

Sex should be done in privacy. So how would you arrest people for being homosexual? Where are you drawing the line? Can a man wear a pink polo? What if a woman is wearing a plaid shirt and loafers? What if two women hugged? What if two men did the Italian 3 cheek kiss with each other in Montana? If you truly want to arrest people for being homosexual, will you not wait for the act to occur, or will you try to bring them down for their impure thoughts alone?

See where I am getting with this? It's not freedom if you can't each choose your own way of life.

What are you talking about? Everyone on this thread AFAIK has said that it is public behaviour that is at issue. Did you read the article?

Is it your contention that all behaviour is acceptable? Freedom has nothing to do with it.

Are you saying that you believe that homosexuals and heterosexuals are the same?

No. Obviously, heterosexuality is the norm. Homosexuality seems to come mostly from the uterine environment. The latest research is that extra androgens in that environment shape a person's sexual identity and orientation, and that this all takes place at a specific time (though I am not sure which week of pregnancy it is) near the beginning of the second trimester. This is also when the male genitalia start to differentiate from the female, and there is also a huge upswing in defects there these days. Hypospadias is one that is growing very common.

I am thinking about what happens in polluted ponds and streams: the frogs therein are first affected in their sex organs and behaviors. Who are we to think that chemicals and pollutants in our environment don't do the same?

If most gays had no choice, and were born that way, are they not innocent children of G-d like those born with cleft palates, Down Syndrome, or diabetes?

I know that some gays force themselves to live as straights. But many are accepted by society for who they are and live the way they have been made. My desire is for them to be happy and productive members of society, to be conservative, and to lead a modest lifestyle.

If you feel homosexuality is a sin, well, so is gossip. No one is pushing for a sin like gossiping to be made illegal. Sometimes you really have to let Him sort this stuff out and be loving to all of His children.

On gay marriage, I feel like Sir Elton John: gays do not need the word marriage. They need a way to make their partnerships just as significant and binding without changing 2000+ years of tradition.

Your argument is ludicrous and outdated, unless you think you’re a frog, which at this point wouldn’t surprise me.

I reread it and I do not see where it says that they wish to make PUBLIC homosexuality illegal. Is there a lot of open fornication on the streets of Montana? I don't get what you are talking about.

Of course I do not approve of public sex. I don't think that is what they were saying.

This is what the Montana GOP policy says:

"Homosexual Acts

We support the clear will of the people of Montana expressed by legislation to keep homosexual acts illegal."

I see nothing there that addresses private actions. Do you? Nothing there about men wearing pink shirts, either. I don't know how much public fornication takes place in Montana, but I do know that in places that do not disapprove of it, such as San Francisco, that it does take place, and it's not rare.

You do realize that all sorts of disabilities are mainstreamed today? And freedom does not mean YOU being free of people you disapprove of. It really doesn't.

Homosexuality is a mental illness. It can be cured.

Page 184 from After the Ball “We argue that for all practical purposes, gays should be considered to have been born gay, even though sexual orientation, for most humans, seems to be the product of a complex interaction between innate predispositions and environmental factors during childhood and early adolescence”

After the Ball is a book written by homosexuals. It is a propaganda manual. They admit "born that way" isn't true.

If any sex is happening in the streets, gay or straight, I want them arrested too. In the bedroom? Not so much. And it's not about emotionality; it's about FREEDOM to do what you want in your own home.

I don't care what they do in their homes.

I want it out of the public eye, the schools and the courts. Homosexuality is a deviant BEHAVIOR. It is NOT the same as being blue eyed, brown haired or left handed.

This was debunked years ago. And androgens are male hormones. Explain to us how male hormones make a man want to use a poop chute as a sex object.

Studies of women that received more androgens in the womb showed no difference between control groups and those that had more male hormones in the womb.

Can you not see how ludicrous your statement is? Male hormones make a man a homosexual?

This is EXACTLY how the GOP loses elections.

Yeah, but being a RINO is a winning strategy.

Taking a stand against homosexual conduct (not homosexuals) has been a losing strategy for the GOP for eons, since its inception, right?

Here’s something for a poster of courage. I don’t think the nation wants to go this far, but I can certainly undrestand the frustration people have with homosexual activism and the insane expenses self-inflicted AIDS patients are costing society.

You are being purposely obtuse.

It’s about public sodomy. If homosexuals do what nasty repulsive unnatural acts that they do in private and do not make huge pronouncements, no one will know or care.

Yes, it's pretty clear where you're going with this.

Off the cliff into babbling incoherent homosexual propaganda-land.

Yaelle, you've made it clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that you know this is not what the GOP platform is advocating in MT, nor any of us here.

What you are now doing is consciously erecting a straw man and saying we and the GOP in MT believe it. I say you are a liar because you know this is untrue.
