HARRISON A Coleman man charged with stealing money from a doughnut shop owned by several Clare Police officers is likely to enter into a plea deal to avoid facing a jury.
Brent L. Kenyon, 24, is charged with single felony counts of entering without breaking and larceny in a building and a single misdemeanor count of larceny of less than $1,000. In addition, he is facing a habitual offender, second offense enhancement, court records show.
A preliminary examination slated for Wednesday in Clare County District Court was adjourned and rescheduled for Sept. 27, court records show. Kenyon is likely to accept a plea offer, though the details of that offer could not be revealed, said Clare County Prosecutor Michelle Ambrozaitis.
Authorities contend Kenyon stole close to $800 from Cops & Doughnuts, a Clare bakery owned by nine police officers at 523 S. McEwan. Kenyon, a night-shift worker, allegedly pried open a lock to gain access to the shops office area, Bay City Times archives show.
Keynons alleged thieving was supposedly caught on tape by a security camera installed by the bakerys owners, Times archives show.
Kenyon was on probation at the time of the alleged larceny after having pleaded guilty to drug charges in Gratiot County. He was sentenced to three years probation in March 2008, the Michigan Department of Corrections website shows.
Police-owned doughnut shop... bravo!
Police owning a donut shop?
You just can’t make this stuff up!
So, do the police officer owners of this donut shop provide free donuts to their fellow police officers? Inquiring minds would like to know. LOL
He’s lucky he’s not dead.
I’m just saying...
Isn't that a conflict of interest?
not nice to steal cop food...
Thanks Shermy.
Hey, this isn’t the dumbest crook ever.
It’s not true to say that no one ever robs mob-owned businesses.
It just doesn’t make it to the papers.
For some reason.
I’ve heard that Cops & Doughnuts is kind of a hole.
He is going to cop a plea.
Police-owned donut shop - is that like a fox-owned hen house?

It would make good material for a Joseph Heller novel.
But he has already covered that subject.
Few years ago (back when Military and Cops were ‘drinkers’) some fool stumbled into the DC FOP bar either trying to hide from police or intent on robbing the place...didn’t matter, it was middle of afternoon and place was FOP (Full of Police).
Heard the dude REALLY needed a change of pants..

lol. Irony Donuts.
Stealing from the cops. Bad idea.
Well, they cut out the middleman.
to paraphrase the Bangles, all the cops at the cops doughnut shops...
