FLORIDA (KGO) -- A father boarded his 11-year old daughter's school bus in central Florida to confront her alleged bullies.

She has cerebral palsy, and James Jones says some kids on the bus had been taunting her, hitting her and had even thrown condoms at her. He brought her on board and asked her to point them out.

"Everybody sit down. Everybody sit down," Jones said on the surveillance tape. He then orders his 11-year-old daughter to point out her alleged tormenters. "Show me which one. Show me which one," he said.

"I'm gonna (expletive) you up -- this is my daughter, and I will kill the (expletive) who fought her," Jones said.

>>Any parent who stands up for their kid is going to be a hero in their eyes, and earn the undying love of his daughter. That’s my 2 cents. <<

You just made me tear up. Yes, yes! You are absolutely correct. I remember when my dad stood up for me. My daughter remembers when her dad stood up for her. And this little girl will remember it the rest of her life.

Thank you.

For every minute you make my child suffer, I will guarantee you a week of pain.

“His mistake was in announcing his intentions.”

Yep. He could have put a scare into these idiots with no fanfare.

And what was a kid with a "broken body" doing on a regular school bus anyway. How much time did normal kids waste putting up with whatever had to be done to accommodate this kid? Or don't normal kids count?

Special ed programs in public schools are nothing new. My school system had special ed classes; and that was over 25 years ago. The school provided classes that helped the retarded kids become capable of taking care of themselves. Depending on the nature of the problem, they are sometimes trained for basic service industry employment including janitorial work.

Generally, those with profound disabilities rode the "short bus." A kid with mild cerebral palsy could ride the "normal bus." Some of us stuck up for the handicapped kids.

As part of my sociology class in High School, I went to a local elementary school and tutored "Special Ed" kids. Some of those "retarded" kids had amazing math skills.

Driver’s do their best, but a driver usually cannot stop bullying because, well, they’re busy driving and don’t know what is happening behind the seats in the back of the bus.

That's what I was thinking, too - a bus driver might not know what's happening behind him because he has to watch the road. I'm sure you are a caring person who wanted to do your job - which was drive the students safely from home to school and back again.

But, what I remember from my school days is that there is the occasional school bus driver who laughs along with the bullies or sides with them. Other drivers themselves are afraid of the students. (Once in awhile, a driver is jumped by the students.) Others are either oblivious to what's happening behind them, or they don't care.

I don't know which type the bus driver in this story is, but I can understand the father coming down hard on the driver, too. He has to come down hard on the only adult who's in charge. Notice he threatened the little culprits first, though.

With all that we’re hearing about this case so far - including that the girl was hospitalized on suicide watch, and the father already tried complaining to the school - I can understand this man going ballistic.

I’m not saying it was the best way to handle the situation, but I can understand and sympathize with him. He may be in trouble himself now, but he did finally get the school to pay attention. :-0

I agree with you here. A little dose of being scared straight can benefit the bullies also. One of my kids went through this but the bus had a video camera on it. I would walk with my kid down to the bus stop at a distance from him but just close enough to have my presence noticable by the perps.

And when I went to high school, we didn't have "sociology." Maybe that's a big part of the problem, one way or the other.

They're called "public schools" for a reason, a**hole.

Call me names all you want. But please read something that this John Taylor Gatto has written. Find out who he is. Consider what he has to say. See my post at #175 for a link. Just read a chapter. (Chapter 3 of Underground History is pretty eye-opening.)

My daughter's father went on the school bus after the bus driver almost ran us bus stop mothers over when he was in a cranky mood. We dealt with this driver's nastiness towards our children for months. He went over the curb at us & then told the cops the bus jumped the curb. It was clear from the rage in his face he was aiming at the group of us. The school said maybe we shouldn't stay at the bus stop but sit in our cars. The cops did nothing. After Sassy's daddy was done talking to this man he was a different person. A little stern talking to from a nasty biker can do wonders.

The schools do little when your child is picked on. They want to sit & talk it out. It isn't like it used to be where kids are afraid. They aren't, they act like monsters. Parents take no accountability for their children's behavior. Hell maybe they teach them to be horrible monsters. I told my sons if you get hit, you better defend yourselves & if the school suspends you fine. If you don't teach your children to defend themselves bullies will pick on them until your child slips into a depression or gets the nerve to defend themselves. Which could result in a very bad situation for many people.

I don't blame the father. Should he let his child be taunted & beat up? A real father defends his child.

Well, they didn't do very much when I was in elementary school. I remember watching quite a few schoolyard fights. I doubt that happens much anymore.

When I was in school they called your parents right away. Now parents don’t seem to care what their little darlings do & it is never their fault anyway. I believe if my child is hit, he/she has the right to defend themselves. And had one of my sons been on that bus that girl would have had some protection. They were taught to help people who are unable to protect themselves. Now I home school & don’t worry about these things.

The “No Child Left Behind Act” is exactly that. A severely handicable child is given the same test as an honor roll student. The lesson here is diversity for all. Common sense is not a trait we are born with. To bad for us.

I’d visit the house again that night, alone, around 8 pm. I’d knock on the door and politely explain the situation to the father, and tell him that if he didn’t put a stop to it, I’d take it out on him, one way or another.

If some guy came to my house at night and threatened me in the manner you just described, he'd be looking down the business end of my ever-present pistol while I had my wife or one of the kids call the police. While we waited for the police to come arrest him, if he so much as twitched in a threatening manner, I'd end his miserable life right there on the porch, and it would be 100% legal in the great state of Texas.

I strongly suggest you rethink the idiocy of entering someone's property to make threats. That kind of thinking (or lack thereof) might get you killed. For your own sake, I hope you're just swinging your epeen and don't seriously act out like a $2 thug. Plenty of good people believe wholeheartedly in the castle law.
