New Poll Brings Bad News For Cahill (MA gov)
Ch 4 Boston ^ | 9/17/10 | WBZ-TV

The latest poll in the governor's race shows Gov. Deval Patrick and Republican challenger Charlie Baker running neck-and-neck.

But when the poll expands to included so-called "leaners" it's bad news for independent Tim Cahill.

According to the new Rasmussen Reports survey, Patrick leads Baker 42-to-38 percent. Cahill is a distant third with 11-percent.

But, when pollsters asked the undecided voters which candidate they're "leaning" towards, the numbers change.

Patrick leads Baker 45-to-42 percent, while Cahill loses more than half his support and drops to 5-percent.

The poll of 500 likely voters was conducted Wednesday, September 15. The margin of error is +/- 4.5 points.

Two weeks ago, before the debates started, Patrick led Baker by two points, 44-to-42-percent, while Cahill had eight-percent. Those numbers also included "leaners."

When leaners were excluded, Patrick led Baker 39-to-34, while Cahill had 18-percent.

As for Patrick's job approval rating in the Sept. 15 poll, voters are evenly split.

49-percent approve while 50-percent disapprove.

Howie Carr list ping

For those not familiar with the race the candidates are
Incumbent Deval Patrick-D
Charlie Baker-R (some would say RINO)
Tim Cahill- I (actually, D. See below)
Jill Stein- Green/Rainbow (might get 1-2 per cent. To
Deval’s left. Excluded from some debates)

Former Dem Tim Cahill, the outgoing treasurer left the Dem
party but some feel he could drain votes from Baker and
elect Patrick again. They say without Cahill, Baker
would be ahead. Signs of Democrat Tim Cahill: Took Dem
ballot in primary after hesitating and said he wanted to help some “pals” out. This after saying why he left
the Dem party. Make your mind up.

Patrick quite respectful of Cahill and kept saying he was right during debates. He needs him in this race.

Cahill got caught for not paying taxes for 8 years. He did pay up, when caught. How Dem is it?

Don’t worry, poor Timmy will be welcomed back if he helps
“No Ordinary Leader” Patrick to a second term. Or even if he doesn’t, he’ll become a Dem again.

Many have problems with Baker but wouldn’t four years
of Deval be worse?

A good many Cahill supporters are looking for someone who isn't a Democrat, someone who hasn't drunk the kool-aid, someone who would work against Obama's agenda ...

Unfortunately, these Cahill supporters think that Cahill is that guy.

He isn't.

Cahill is an obvious straw candidate.

Come January he will land something in Obamas administration.

Yes.

And I do know many have concerns over Baker for various reasons, but voting Cahill means that most likely you get Patrick again. Better choice?

From the people that brought you Conservatives for Coakley
earlier in the year (thankfully people managed to vote
Brown in), it’s Conservatives for Deval.

Cahill seems like a hack to me, an insider Dem. Howaya
Timmy! How’s the family? Did you go to the tiiiiiiiiiiiiime for our fave hack candidate? Don’t worry, Tim-ster, we’ll
welcome you back as a Dem. Thanks for pulling the Dem
ballot last Tue and helping out some of our guys. We don’t
need no stinkin’ Republicans in this state, we should be totally Democrat and Timmy, you’re doin’ us proud.

Yep, I’m thinking Timmy has a nice cushy job lined up with HUSSEIN as payment for helping to get the obama clone re-elected here in MA.

For all the democrats and independents that I can’t sway to Baker(not that he’s any good either - but he’s best) I’m in a concerted effort to have them vote for Cahill.

For those who say they are voting for Patrick - I tell them if they are they are voting on Wednesday (has worked in the past ;>)

I know this - I’m not voting in Baker & the Gay agenda. Not doing it, it looks like all Republicans for me with the governor choice left blank.

We as a nation need to start making some tough choices, an easy one is this - no fake marriages, no elective office to those that are confused as to the definition of marriage.

Sorry Charlie, I’m sitting this one out.

I’d say he’s more of a Weld/Cellucci/Swift hack myself but either way I’m not voting for him, I just hope we pick up seats in the Legislature.

Just want Deval out of there. Anything is an improvement. Baker or Patrick can win. Cahill can’t, but could hand
it to Patrick. Stein’s numbers so small she can’t
really affect race UNLESS it’s so close, like within
a few hundred votes, maybe liberal opting for Stein
COULD swing the race to Baker.

This is MA, where the swing to conservatism may have to
take a long time, or it doesn’t happen at all. Would you have preferred:

Governor Shannon O’Brien
Senator Martha Coakley
Governor Scott Harshbarger

Hey, I did like the reduced/eliminated registry fees Weld gave us, though he never did come through on his promise of re-introducing prisoners to “the joy of busting rock”

Just vote Deval, everyone. He will give you a property tax
decrease, more cops on the street, etc. He really will,
I promise! Paid for by Conservatives for Deval Patrick.

Nope, and you know why. Let the Socialist agenda be pushed through by a Dem Governor, not a DIABLO Socialist Slick Willardbot like Baker.

Romney = Deval the Devil Patrick = Baker

NO MORE RINOs. NO MORE ROMNEYCARE/OBAMACARE

"Governor Mitt Romney, who touts his conservative credentials to out-of-state Republicans,
has passed over GOP lawyers for three-quarters of the 36 judicial vacancies he has faced
,
instead tapping registered Democrats or independents -- including two gay lawyers who
have supported expanded same-sex rights, a Globe review of the nominations has found.
Of the 36 people Romney named to be judges or clerk magistrates, 23 are either registered Democrats
or unenrolled voters who have made multiple contributions to Democratic politicians
or who voted in Democratic primaries, state and local records show.
In all, he has nominated nine registered Republicans, 13 unenrolled voters,
and 14 registered Democrats."
- Boston Globe 7/25/2005

Romney Rewards one of the State's Leading Anti-Marriage Attorneys by Making him a Judge
Romney told the U.S. Senate on June 22, 2004, that the "real threat to the States is not the
constitutional amendment process, in which the states participate,
but activist judges who disregard the law and redefine marriage . . ."
Romney sounds tough but yet he had no qualms advancing the legal career of one
of the leading anti-marriage attorneys.
He nominated Stephen Abany to a District Court.
Abany has been a key player in the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association which,
in its own words, is "dedicated to ensuring that the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision
on marriage equality is upheld, and that any anti-gay amendment or legislation is defeated."
- U.S. Senate testimony by Gov. Mitt Romney, 6/22/2004 P>

"Romney announces he won't fill judicial vacancies before term ends
Despite his rhetoric about judicial activism, Romney announced that
he won't fill all the remaining vacancies during his term - but instead
leave them for his liberal Democrat successor!

Governor Mitt Romney pledged yesterday not to make a flurry of lame-duck
judicial appointments in the final days of his administration . . . David Yas,
editor of Lawyers Weekly, said Romney is "bucking tradition" by resisting the urge to
fill all remaining judgeships. "It is a tradition for governors to use that power to appoint judges
aggressively in the waning moments of their administration," Yas said.
He added that Romney has been criticized for failing to make judicial appointments.
"The legal community has consistently criticized him for not filling open seats quickly enough
and being a little too painstaking in the process and being dismissive of the input of the
Judicial Nominating Commission," Yas said.
- Boston Globe 11/2/2006

“The Massachusetts Republican Party died last Tuesday.
The cause of death: failed leadership.

The party is survived by a few leftover legislators
and a handful of county officials and grassroots activists
who have been ignored for years.
Services will be public and a mass exodus of taxpayers will follow.
In lieu of flowers, send messages to Republican voters
warning them about a certain presidential candidate named Romney.”
- Boston Herald, 11/12/2006

"In 2006, while Romney was chairman of the National Republican
Governors Association - a group dedicated to electing more
Republican governors - his own hand-picked Republican successor
as governor lost badly to the Democrat, despite the fact that Republicans
have held the governorship in Massachusetts since 1990. Romney largely
ignored the Massachusetts elections and spent most of the time
during the campaign out of state building his presidential campaign.
He came back and publicly campaigned for the Republican candidate
the day before the general election!
“Locally, this is a rebuke to Mitt Romney and checking out within six months
after being elected and having accomplished almost nothing,”

[Jim] Rappaport [former chairman of the state Republican Party]."

“Paid for by Conservatives for Deval Patrick”

2009-2010, State House = 141 Democrats vs 19 Republicans
2009-2010, State Senate = 35 Democrats vs 5 Republicans

It takes 105 members of the House joined by 27 members of the Senate to override a governor’s signature.

Do you really think Baker will be able to do much with that?

And what does Baker do in his VERY FIRST act on the way to the governership? He picks one of just five Republican state senators, further weakening the Republican card there, then he goes anti-family.

Imo it’s a false choice - Baker is not a conservative imho, not at all.

1,000% agree FM!

The three major candidates are so putrid, you can't even pick the lesser of THREE evils. Only in Massachusetts...

I'm voting for Jill Stein. Baker may just pull it out, but I will not help him do it.

He’s only part of the problem. Replacing him with a Socialist RINO Governor won’t make things better, but they will make things worse.
