By pulling off arguably the biggest upset of the primary election season Tuesday, Christine O'Donnell shocked the Republican establishment and political pundits who didnt think her campaign for the Delaware GOP Senate nomination had a chance.
But none were more surprised then the staffers who worked for ODonnell in 2008, when she made the second of two prior unsuccessful bids for the Senate. Continue Reading Text Size

POLITICO 44
The tea party giant-killer who knocked off Rep. Mike Castle Tuesday is barely recognizable to them. They remember a candidate who was less interested in conservative causes than scoring a television deal, one who suggested dodging campaign vendors, believed she could give the keynote speech at the Republican National Convention and fixated on a harebrained idea to distribute tens of thousands of two-ounce suntan lotion packets to voters.
That Christine ODonnell lost in a landslide to then-Sen. Joe Biden, who was simultaneously running for vice president.
Kristin Murray, who left her position in the state party to serve as one of several campaign managers for ODonnell during that race, said warning bells went off in June 2008 when the two were discussing cell phone plans.
"She told me that she thought Joe Biden tapped her phone line," she said.

“Why are these clowns so afraid to report on Coons?
Its reminiscent of the way the media treats Barky.”
Right! Coons is the communist, self avowed marxist with a beard...and yet they’re all over O’Donnell for stuff she’s cleared up in the past (her tuition and degree) and a couple other inadvisable items that I’d place under the broad folder of ‘she’s human’.
Her star is rising - time to MOVE ON DOT ORG!!
And how did the Delaware Republican Party allow her to be their 2008 Senatorial candidate if she had all this supposed baggage? Typical insider politics that makes us voters sick.
That's what I'm wondering.....what information is out there on these "ex" staffers' recent activities, contributions or facebook affiliations? I would lay money on the results of such an inquiry producing some rather revealing results....
Politico is staffed and run by progressive socialists!!
Be Ever Vigilant!!
They can find out every piece of gossip and dirt about this supposedly "unimportant" woman, but there still hasn't been a decent article from the mainstream press about Obama's past, his school records, his early life, his time in Pakistan, etc. ad nauseum.
I sincerely hope Christine and every other conservative wins this year, and we kick some serious liberal and RINO ass.
Christine, if she is smart, will realize she can coast to election if she runs not against Coons, but against Rove and the GOP establishment. “A vote for Christine is a poke in Karl Rove’s eye!” I will leave it to the marketing gurus to make it catchier, but you get the idea. Rats will come out of the woodwork to vote for her if she turns her race into one against Rove.
Bring it on DNC!
Mr. Du Pont needs to organize a ‘meet and greet’ between Christine and the Wilmington banking community.
The old money Dutch Tobacco merchants who roost at the Wilmington Country Club probably aren’t too comfortable with a lady sitting down at the card table with ‘the boys’.
Someone needs to break the ice here...come ‘on boys show the little lady some hospitality. Tell her what banking deals you’re working on...What you REALLY think about Hugo Chavez...etc...
Lighten up...she can win the 51st seat in the U.S. Senate.
Yeah “Lightening up” sure worked well for us during the Bush years. We went from controlling the WH and the Congress to an absolute political minority with that thinking. People who claim to be on our side need to learn this is not a game, this is war.
Those GOP Establishment type who spend all their time shooting our own in the back in this battle need a reckoning, not a reconciliation.
Heh heh...that was funny. And apt!
Tokyo Rove... I like that!
“Now all this crap coming from aides, thats nothing short of treachery. Its disloyal, dishonest, its reprehensible.”
I completely agree. What’s with these “aides?” Even if CO had a few bad decisions in her past, and has rectified them - who cares about these ‘aides’ last minute impressions about whether she’s a true Conservative or not. Why should we trust (as you imply Danae) these ‘aides?’
I tell you what, she’s not perfect, but CO’s star is rising and she’s got Conservative backing and will have Conservative advisors to surge to victory in DE in Nov.!
She’s currently at 1.557M and counting!
that’s probably because Oboingo has never actually worked.
I used to really like to listen to Charles but he has really disappointed me with this.
she sure as hell got AUDITED when she was running against ol’ Joe....why is it preposterous to believe he tapped her phone???
All I know is that when confronted with having to back a guy like McCain or take a pass, the party elites urge us to remain faithful to the party.
When confronted with voting for O’Donnel or her disgusting Democrat opponent, they go for the throat of their adversary. And of course it’s Christine O’Donnel.
Folks, there’s something rotten in Deleware, and it’s not O’Donnel. If the Republican elites will back McCain, they’ll back any leftist with an (R) after their name.
They just won’t back a Republican with a (C) after their name.
What is it we’ve been saying for years now? “The Republican party is nothing more than an arm of the Democrat party.”
In this election, the Republicans are coming out of the woodwork to destroy the Republican nominee.
Tell me that isn’t on behalf of the Democrat party. Tell me that won’t help the Democrats keep the majority.
Anyone that is raising money for, or contributing to the Republican party these days is completely MIA on the issues concerning Conservatism. If you’re a supporter of our founding principles and a Free Republic, you can’t support the Republican party. That’s how I see it.
Support good people who happen to be Republicans, fine. Support someone because they’re a Republican, no.
John McCain doesn’t deserve our support. O’Donnel does.
Well, guess what, Politico?
Christine no longer has money problems.
But she would be well-served to be very careful
about how she spends the million she has.
I hope she’s getting good advice NOW, because if she
carries on the way noted in this article, she will make
the RINOs dreams come true in the “I told you so” sense.
Very well put. Happens no doubt all the time, but the first and strongest parallel that comes to mind is Nicole Wallace and Sarah Palin in the 2008 campaign.
Could this be our own MurrayMom, the laughable extreme leftest?
