Rove Walks Back His Attack: I Endorsed O’Donnell the Other Night. I Helped Her Raise That $750K

Ingenious!

Here we all thought Karl Rove was bashing Delaware conservative Christine O’Donnell and all along he was just raising money for her senatorial campaign. Karl Rove walked back his attacks on Christine O’Donnell this morning on FOX News.

“My job as a Fox analyst is to call it as I see them,” Rove explained this morning. “My job is not to be a cheerleader for every Republican.”

Rove listed all the reasons he’s said in the past why O’Donnell has destroyed the GOP’s (already outside) chances at a Senate majority — the problems with “honesty” he first mentioned on Hannity, her strange finances, etc — but then made it clear that he’s 100% behind the party’s rising star.

“Look, I endorsed her the other night,” he said this morning. “I was one of the first to do it.”

Yeah, you would think...but it is for real. He said he was one of the first to endorse her in that interview.

Tokyo Rove finally realized how deep of a hole he's in and is now has the nerve to steal credit where it is definitely NOT due?

Wowser.

To quote Joe Wilson, “you lie”. I was ashamed of Rove for his obvious hit job on her. It made me feel for the first time that established republicans also had the democrat mentality of keeping us on the plantation. If he had anything other than innuendo, why didn't he present it? I was disgusted with him.

I sent Karl an email expressing my disgust with his ongoing attack. Here is what I got in return. This is just his explanation. The email also consisted of an enormous amount of info (crap) trying to back up his position. Maybe he should go after Obama that hard. Anyway, here it is.

“If we attack President Obama for putting people who can’t pay their taxes into his Administration, how can we defend a Republican candidate who doesn’t pay her taxes, her college bills, or her mortgage; has had no visible means of support; and sued a reputable conservative organization claiming she was the victim of sex discrimination? She didn’t win the lawsuit: her employer said she was fired for trying to run her own pr consulting firm out of their offices while on their clock. We conservatives want conservative candidates, but we do our cause little good by nominating conservatives with serious questions about their fitness and character.
Here are some of the articles that helped shape my thinking, in addition to my impression after meeting her briefly last year:”

And on and on......

Well, call me a contrarian, and I wish O’Donnell the best, but all along all Rove was saying - along with Perino and other commentators - is that O’Donnell will be a harder sell than Castle to get another Republican senator elected and to secure a GOP majority.

Yes, that's what he was saying, but he said it vindictively. And that is what was wrong, and continues to be wrong, with his spiel. Way over the top, totally unnecessary to go after a woman as he did, and in doing so, he did irreparable harm to himself.

Come on, Karl. You were in on this backroom deal. Right?

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2590507/posts?page=58#58

Castle has spent the past 36 hours fielding phone calls and pats on the back from well-wishing colleagues and other politicians, including President Obama, Vice President Biden, House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) and dozens of others.

http://www.newsmax.com/Politics/DelawareODonnellStormsCastle/2010/09/03/id/369145

The influential conservative website RedState.com in August cited sources in Ms. O’Donnell’s campaign for a report predicting that Mr. Castle would follow the example of Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter and switch parties after the election.

If Mike Castle becomes the next United States Senator from Delaware he is going to get sworn in, serve a bit, then become a Democrat, resign, and let Beau Biden get an appointment.

It’s a done deal. The deal has been made already. I’m hearing this not just from Christine O’Donnell people, but party regulars in Delaware, some of whom support Castle. It is insane.

Maybe that is why Mike Castle is running from Christine O’Donnell. He is afraid to have to answer questions about this. The man will not debate her to save his life.

Oh please..Christine brought out more of the average voter this time around. Rove does not know Christine personally, and was talking as if he did. Voters are tired of it. Why would you say you care about the people of Delaware in your post but quote Rove’s predictions? Do you honestly believe he gives a flip?

Sadly Rove is a LIAR. He didn't endorse her, he trashed her and continued to trash her until he finally woke up to reality and saw the hand writing on the wall:

Rove's political future was going down the drain and if he didn't project a false front about his support his money days were over. So now he is all sweetness and light.

Like Mr. Castle, Obamessiah, Pelosi, et al, he thinks he is the ruling class and we are noting but Homer Simpson pawns (Thanks for the apt political illustration Mr. Beck :o) that can be manipulated and sacrificed so that he can maintain his power.

Sorry, not buying it Carl, you told us exactly what you think and we, the American people are not on the same page.

I live in delaware too.

I don’t doubt that down-ticket Repubs wanted Castle- after all they eat from the same trough.

But to think he would help them get elected is ludicrous. 32% turnout in a non-presidential primary. If O’Donnell wasn’t on the ticket, that number would likely be under 10%.

I’m an independent BECAUSE of candidates like Castle. O’Donnell may or may not win; but the die has been cast.

And if she loses, Delaware will have a Senator only slightly more liberal than Castle, and we can blame it on the Democrats.

Establishment Republicans at any level need to get the message- if you want to take us the same place the Dems do- only slower, it aint gonna cut it anymore.

BTW- The State GOP webpage still procalims its support for Castle. Wonder how much money has poured into their coffers in the last 36 hours?

Think it’s a mill plus?

Will Wallace

Rove’s comments the other night are starting to look like the seminal moment. The outrage has scared the Republican establishment to their core. The backlash against Rove is going to go down as the moment the Republican party “got the message” that they can either work for the Tea Party, or get replaced by them. there is no privileged place, theer. I don’t think we can trust them yet, but the Republican party establishment now knows they need to be afraid. They will not be able to use this movement to return to a Rockefeller Republican role. They’ll probably still try, though.

In the last 48 hours I’ve heard real originality rhetoric from Hucakbee, Rove and Michael Steele.

The fight will go on for many more years, but I think Rove’s comments were a key moment.

You say, “ I am in Delaware, am a native of 50 years, and every down-ballot conservative, including many conservatives such as Colin Bonini and Gordon Winegar, wanted CASTLE at the top of the ticket given his proven cross over appeal.”

Don’t you get it? Republicans are sick of “cross-over appeal” (in real speak - I’ll vote Dem and you can adjust). I would rather see the Republicans in the minority for a couple more years than see an eternity of “cross-over appeal” while the entire nation collapses. It is time that the Pubs get the message that we are sick of McCains and Castles being the choices we are offered. If they can’t do the job right then the voters are going to have to MAKE themselves be heard - buh-bye Castle!

You got a lotta nerve
To say you are my friend
When I was down
You just stood there grinning

You got a lotta nerve
To say you got a helping hand to lend
You just want to be on
The side that’s winning

You say I let you down
You know it’s not like that
If you’re so hurt
Why then don’t you show it

You say you lost your faith
But that’s not where it’s at
You had no faith to lose
And you know it

I know the reason
That you talk behind my back
I used to be among the crowd
You’re in with

Do you take me for such a fool
To think I’d make contact
With the one who tries to hide
What he don’t know to begin with

You see me on the street
You always act surprised
You say, “How are you?” “Good luck”
But you don’t mean it

When you know as well as me
You’d rather see me paralyzed
Why don’t you just come out once
And scream it

No, I do not feel that good
When I see the heartbreaks you embrace
If I was a master thief
Perhaps I’d rob them

And now I know you’re dissatisfied
With your position and your place
Don’t you understand
It’s not my problem

I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment
I could be you

Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You’d know what a drag it is
To see you
