Did my ears deceive me? Did I hear House Minority Leader John Boehner say on CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday, "If the only option I have is to vote for those at 250 and below, of course I'm going to do that"? He was referring to voting for extending the Bush tax cuts to those making less than $250,000 a year. And he was referring to the issue when there is a building momentum to keep the tax cuts for everyone in an era of fragile economic growth and 9.6 percent unemployment. Even some Democrats are willing to keep the tax cuts, but Boehner just made it difficult for them.
There is a growing awareness that we are not getting out of this slowdown anytime soon. Independents and the tea party movement are siding with conservatives in favor of extending the tax cuts. There is a sense that economic growth is part of the answer to our economic problems. And there is a realization spreading across the country that official Washington is clueless.
President Barack Obama -- in his first 19 months in office -- increased the national debt by more than all presidential administrations from George Washington to Ronald Reagan combined. Obama's extravagance follows the huge amount of red ink splashed around by the Republicans when they were in office. It led to the Republicans relinquishing the presidency in 2008. Now Boehner just indicated that if his party gets back in power, the spending might very well continue. The very rich will have paid more in taxes, and -- that not being enough to pay for Washington's extravagance -- there will be a value-added tax for all of us. Yes, there will be a VAT. There just is not that much to be taken from the rich.
However after seeing the slander job Karl Rove and the GOP machine is pushing about Constitutional Conservative candidate O'Donnell in Delaware, the GOP can find someone else to be in the trenches for it from now on.
I think Boehner has been beaten back into shape since that interview.
I do hate the idea that the elitists, no matter what their political affiliation, are figuring out that they need to disguise their elitism.
Makes it harder to root them out.
Karl Rove has laid down the gauntlet. His reputation hinges on O'Donnell being defeated in November. The fate of the Tea Party Movement, therefore rests in getting her elected.
If we don't win any other election this year, we MUST get O'Donnell elected in Delaware. Every loyal conservative in Delaware MUST get to the polls and vote. A victory there means that the establishment has met it's Waterloo.
Delaware is the next Waterloo and we are NOT the French.

Boehner is “no way” up to the task ahead. I think he and Steele needs to go ASAP. Spineless, gutless, eunuchs need not apply. If we had Boehner or Steele in Iraq or Afganistan, God help us.

Don’t jettison the party....jettison Rove and those like minded individuals from the party. Make Rove and his mindset tow our line instead of us and our mindset tow theirs.
Maybe I am stupid, but actually think Boehner was correct. It is my opinion that The Won wants everyone’s taxes to go up on January 1....he is about to drown in red ink and he needs every tax dollar he can get.
But Obama needs a scapegoat, so he spends 2 weeks demonizing John Boehner and then John Boehner goes on the Sunday show. They were hoping that he would provide the 10 second soundbite that would allow them to blame the coming tax increases on John Boenher. But instead of holding firm, he says he will take what he can get in the way of tax relief.
If they could have used John Boehner as the scapegoat, this issue would be over now. All taxes are going up and it is because of the evil republicans.
Because, Boehner appeared to waffle, this issue is still alive and the dems are still looking for a scapegoat.
I have counted FOUR appearances by Rove where he slanders O’Donnell. Sheesh. Enough already. Talk about Charlie Rangel for a change.
It was a united effort last night by the establishment:
Republican Senate Committee, Karl Rove, John Cornyn, Charles Krauthammer, countless media, and even Bill O’Reilly...they condescend to this woman and her tea party supporters who beat the establishment candidates.
The establishment types, the RoveKrammer types, obviously think they’re much smarter, but that isn’t what I really smell in the air.
I smell fear.
Their free ride is in jeopardy, and they know it.
It is THEIR club that’s being attacked....and they and their fellow clubbers, dems/liberals/socialists/rinos, etc., are getting worried.

Thanks! Interesting article. The only reason I can see for the White House to start their two week campaign against the unknown minority leader, was to set that trap for him.
I think the White House is just desperate for a new strawman to knock down. Notice how they quit bashing Bush and even praised him a couple of times? When was the last time they slammed Palin? It used to be at least three times a week. I believe their polling indicates the public is sick of those attacks so they need a new enemy #1, and they chose Boehner.
Here is the point. At this point the Democrats control the House. They bring a bill to the floor continuing the Bush tax cuts for everyone earning less than $250K. The Republicans attempt to amend the bill to include all income levels. They fail. (This isn’t a given — enough Democrats might vote for the amendment for it to carry. But for this case, it fails.)
Now the bill — cutting taxes for some, but not all Americans — reaches the floor of the House for a final vote. The Republicans cannot stop that from happening in the House. (They can in the Senate, but not in the House.) How do you vote? Do you vote for the bill, knowing that it will help some people if it passes? Do you vote against the bill, because it does not extend all Bush tax cuts?
Remember, if you vote against the bill you give the Democrats two things they want very, very badly.
1. You give them a chance to campaign this fall claiming they wanted to cut taxes, but the Republicans voted against it.
2. If the bill fails to pass (and it will if the Republicans fail to support it) you give the government a lot more money to play with in 2011 as taxes get increased by more than they would have otherwise.
Those are two results that Obama would absolutely love.
Boehner gave the smart answer. Because that was the situation which he meant when he said he would support passage of a flawed bill.
Except for the Laffer Curve. That tells us that the higher tax rates will bring in less tax revenue, due to a decline in economic activity.
Yes. We on the right understand the Laffer curve. But the dems don’t get it. They think more taxes means more money for them.
