Tea-party win in Delaware stuns Washington

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The stunning victory Tuesday by a tea-party backed candidate in Delaware’s Republican Senate primary has roiled the Republican Party and given Democrats fresh hope that they can keep their majority in the November elections.

Little-known conservative Christine O’Donnell, 41, pulled off a major upset by defeating moderate Republican Mike Castle, by 53% to 47%, in a low-turnout primary. The result reverberated across the political landscape, rousing tea-party members, dispiriting mainstream Republicans and delighting Democrats.

Until a few weeks ago the 71-year-old Castle, the state’s lone congressman for 17 years, had been expected to romp in the primary and beat his Democratic opponent in the fall. O’Donnell got a big boost after former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin endorsed her, drawing fresh attention to the campaign.

I am more pissed at Rove then Obama. It is Rove type Rino lickers who have ruined the party of Reagan.

I was screaming at the TV while Bush with Roves advise rolled on his belly to the MSM long before I knew who the the TelePrompter Queen was.

Bush and Rove went to Washington preaching Rove's "new tone" for not criticizing Rove's fellow travelers in the Democrat party. Aparently Rove's "new tone" doesn't apply to conservatives in his own party...

BTW, Bush was an idiot for adopting Rove's "new tone" and will pay for it the rest of his life...

It was record turnout for a Delaware GOP primary, not a low turnout.

Don't confuse the MSM with silly things like facts. It messes up their narrative.

“I think it shows there is a deep civil war that’s going on in the Republican Party... I think the message is moderates aren’t welcome. Moderates, keep out.”

I see Tim is really talking about his own party, the Democrats.

Very true. But in the dem party, the war is pretty much over. The 'moderates' have been defeated, rejected, and ejected. They now refer to themselves as independents but they still hold to the ideas of the 'old' dem party.

I would hope we can convert our 'moderates' rather than eject them, but that will not be possible in all cases. obama is helping us a lot, though.

Why are we giving any credence to an article that begins with a lie?

The only ones who believe Castle is a moderate are Dummies, KosKiddies, establishment Republicans who see their power fading and the leftist media.

A quick study of Castle’s voting record will reveal if he is a moderate Dennis Kucinich is a conservative.

It drives me crazy that the Repubs must have “moderate” candidates, while the Dems never are asked to moderate their positions. How is being true to the Republican party platform somehow radical? Everything we as Conservatives believe in is in the GOP platform, all we ask is for our reps to abide by it.... is that so difficult or radical?

The dirty little secret is the people Kaine is talking about aren’t moderates. They are liberals in the GOP.

What Mr. Kaine forgets is that the independents and moderates know what the democrats are all about now. And they don’t like it.

I think moderates and independents have witnessed the extreme arrogance and cluelessness of the ruling class.

There is no moderation in the Communist democrat party. They are far left.

Castle is no moderate. Basta.

O'Donnell is the true moderate. She says 'let's uphold the Constitution'.
