Israel Likely to Strike Iran
DoDBuzz/Military.com ^ | September 13th, 2010

Israel will probably attack Iran to keep it from developing a nuclear bomb, but it will try to do it without making the U.S. an accomplice, a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and Israeli advocate says.

Charles Krauthammer, a psychiatrist by training and longtime Washington-based syndicated columnist and political analyst for Fox News, made the prediction to DoD Buzz during his appearance at the annual Air & Space Conference sponsored by the Air Force Association this week at the National Harbor in Maryland. In an address to a ballroom filled mostly with Airman, including Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz, Krauthammer said the Israelis will feel compelled to attack Iran.

“It’s almost inconceivable that Israel will not do something if the world doesn’t to prevent an Iranian nuclear weapon,” he said. “The only question is do they have the resources or the actual intelligence on the ground for such an attack to succeed. And that answer to that is entirely on them [to decide]. Perhaps there are others who know it. We may only know it the morning after, when the dust has settled and the smoke has cleared.”

Is it not sad that the most powerful nation in the world, the United States, does nothing about Iran? We have elected a bunch of spineless leaders. Thank God they weren’t in office during WWII.

The U.S. is already fighting two wars. Is there any way this can be avoided?

Since Iran has already threatened Israel with holocaust, there is at least one logical response, if and when it is apparent that Iran actually has a nuke, which would be the tool Iran could use to fulfill their pledge to destroy Israel: a pre-emptive nuclear strike.

“...but it will try to do it without making the U.S. an accomplice”

And in that case the headlines will NOT be “Neighborhood Bully saves the world once again”. There should say “ally”, not “accomplice”.

“Then he destroyed a bomb factory, nobody was glad”.

Iran is teetering on the brink of revolution.
Once decapitated the Iranian nation will hurry to
settle up with the West. But Ajad, the Mullahs, and the
chief cadres of the IRGC must be liquidated.

Everyone is hoping Israel will do the dirty work and let the rest of us claim innocence.

I think this will qualify as "implausible" deniability. Non one will believe we weren't in the loop and no one will believe we didn't assist, even if we didn't.

In any case, Iran will launch reprisals against any target within reach, which will include our troops on the ground and Persian Gulf shipping. We'll be dragged into it to defend the oil tankers just as we were during the Iran-Iraq war, except this time that will mean taking out the shore missile batteries that Iran will use to close the straits.

In other words, once Israel launches her strike, we're in like it or not and the war is on, like it or not.

Not unless you're comfortable having nukes and dirty bombs pre-positioned all over the U.S. The dems and O risk becoming responsible, through their criminal negligence and inaction, for a genocidal disaster on the U.S. mainland.

“They’re [the Israeli’s} are not going to go over Iraq because that would embarrass the U.S. The Saudis will give them a corridor and they’ll be asleep that morning.”

Or the Saudis could sell us out when the arab world goes hysterical as they have amply demonstrated the capability to do.

All a casual observer needs to do is study the islamic countries reaction to rumors to know that logic won't prevail. No matter what Israel does, the great satan will be implicated.

That being said why not just buy in and get 'er done?

Actually, the US is fighting one: against Iran, but in two locations.

Er...”accomplice?” That makes it sound as if the Israelis are doing something criminal by preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.

They don’t have to worry about us in any case. Obama certainly would never do anything to make it look as if we were cooperating with Israel in any way, and in fact he is busy arming Saudi Arabia and other radical Muslim countries to make sure that Israel has no advantage over them. It’s his version of a proxy war.

Bubba was offered Bin Laden several times. Lack of responsibility is no risk at all to Marxist Liberals.

The US is not fighting two wars -- we are fighting one war, against Islamist terror -- in two dominant theaters, Iraq and Afganistan. Bush screwed up by not making this clear, thus allowing the anti-American faction of the American political scene to define it as two separate wars. This war has included Iran as our enemy since close to the beginning, as Iran has been providing materiel, technical advice, and personnel to the battle against the US in the Iraq theater. Iran is also the largest state sponsor of Islamist terror in the world.

We have two options, as we always do -- take the fight to the enemy, or wait for the enemy to take the fight to us. With regard to Iran we've opted for the latter, but how wise is it to continue this strategy when nukes are involved? Not very, in my mind.

Oh, didn't you hear? King Hussein is planning on selling the Saudis $60 billion in advanced aircraft. It's being sold to congress as our "getting tough with Iran" measure. That will really scare the mullahs. Good show, Barry, good show!

Why would it be avoidable since Iran is between Iraq and a hard place.

My guess is that the Israeli Air Force may have gotten their hands on this missile:

Lockheed Martin AGM-158 JASSM

This missile, which can be carried by modified Israeli AF F-15's, has a very low radar cross section and can travel over 200 miles to the target from the launch point. That means Israeli AF don't need to fly anywhere close to the heavily defended Iranian nuclear sites to cause substantial damage to Iran's nuclear facilities.
