Panicked GOP Leaders Have Lost Control of the Party
ConservativeHQ.com ^ | September 15, 2010 | Richard Viguerie

Posted on 09/15/2010 12:30:17 PM PDT by SharpRightTurn

GOP leaders -- Mitch McConnell, John Cornyn, John Boehner, Karl Rove and others -- as well as establishment Republicans have no idea how livid Americans are with them.

Republican leaders are in a panic because they have lost control of the Republican Party.

Grassroots constitutional conservatives are inside the Citadel, and are poised to take over.

All across the country -- in the Northeast, the South, the West -- Americans feel betrayed by Republican politicians. Last night’s election results show that the grassroots anger is directed at more than just the Obama-Reid-Pelosi Democrats.

Christine O’Donnell’s inspiring upset in Delaware, Ovide Lamontagne’s populist and improbable surge in New Hampshire, Carl Paladino’s trouncing of Rick Lazio in New York -- and previous primary wins by Sharron Angle, Ken Buck, Joe Miller, etc. -- all have been the result of the grassroots uprising against big government and the ‘ruling class,’ and in spite of the GOP establishment.

Never before in American history has a movement made such momentous change in such a short period of time.

As Reagan said in 1976, Americans want new leaders unfettered by old ties and old relationships.

The symbolically stupid decision last night by the National Republican Senatorial Committee not to fund Christine O’Donnell’s general election campaign, which it reversed this morning only after a massive grassroots uproar, and Karl Rove’s meltdown on Fox’s Hannity show will only fuel further primary challenges to GOP political leaders.

Current GOP leaders not ‘retired’ in 2010, will be in 2012 and 2014, and can join their former colleagues, such as Trent Lott, on the K Street lobbying circuit. And, they should get used to saying, ‘Majority Leader DeMint.’

I worked the polls in the most Republican Wards of the most Republican City of the most Republican County in WI yesterday. We had more than 25 people waiting at the door at 6:45 AM yesterday. I’ve NEVER seen that happen — even for a General, much less a Primary. Our turnout was around 45%. There were WAY more Republican voters than Dem voters yesterday. These same Wards elected John McCain in 2008, but by a SLIM margin.

The older voters were out in force and came in wheelchairs, walkers, and on canes. I’ve never seen anything like it. I registered 65 new voters at a PRIMARY.

“I had said many times that Bush (with help from the Congressional high spending Republicans) ruined the Republican brand....”

There’s no doubt about that. And if it happens again, the Grumpy Old Party is finished.

I would go back to the halcyon years of Ronald Reagan. After eight years we thought that had become the status quo for the party.

We were wrong. Even as Ronaldus Magnus led our Republic to new worldwide heights, there were moles in the party plotting to tear us down--the Donald Regans and such-- and when the mantle was passed to the politically skinny shoulders of GHWBush, they began to undermine the edifice of the City on the Hill.

If this is a restoration, let it be a restoration to 1988.

“Game over. This is just the start. They have no idea. Any RINO up for re-election in ‘12 is panicking. Watch them move to the right. Quick.”

No doubt. The GOP Senatorial class of ‘12 have got to have a knot in their gut right now. But the class of ‘14 is probably thinking this whole “Tea Party” fad will have faded by the time they are up for reelection (Lindsay Graham, Lamar Alexander, et al.).

“If this is the case regarding Republicans, then give some thought to how livid Americans are against DEMOCRATS!!!!!! Nov 2 could be a blowout of Biblical proportions.”

Great observation. We’ll work to make sure that happens, putting Harry Reid and his commie buddies out to pasture.

They definitely lost Limbaugh.

He has blown the NRSC totally out of the water and has become the new determiner over who gets money.

He crashed O’Donnell’s website today. Probably got her more cash in three hours than the NSRC has raised in Delaware in a decade.

Very well said.

Regular GOP when into downfall on steroids when Bush, the rookie, asked experienced Cheney to help pick the VP and he picked himself and larded the administration with his think alikes to take over the Government.

I don't know if I can do that in McCain's case...

Hey I know the feeling. I'm in Illinois and I get a choice between Mark Kirk (R) (uber RINO from hell) and Alexi Giannoulias (D) (crooked, Marxist mob banker, also from Hell Chicago). So many wonderful choices. /sarc

Any RINO up for re-election in ‘12 is panicking.

You know, even if we lose the DE seat to Coons, Christine's victory last night might end up netting us a couple new Senators in the next congress anyway: RINOs who will now be too scared to betray the base ever again.
