People who worry about "shaky backgrounds" are not sufficiently familiar with American political history. Benjamin Franklin would have probably been tried for fraudulent misrepresentation and embezzlement of funds involving building the Old Post Road for the British Colonial Administration ~ fortunately for Ben he got involved in declaring Independence and was on the winning side in the American Revolution.
The Brits never recovered on their claim!
