NEW CRIME STATISTICS Crime Rates Continue to Fall
FBI Website ^ | September 13, 2009

Posted on 09/13/2010 12:04:50 PM PDT by CholeraJoe

During 2009, violent crime declined for the third year in a row, with an estimated 5.3 percent drop from 2008 figures. Property crime continued to fall as well—for a seventh straight year—with an estimated decrease of 4.6 percent. That’s according to our just-released report, Crime in the United States, 2009.

These latest statistics come 80 years to the month after we took over the responsibility of compiling and publishing the nation’s crime data from the International Association of Chiefs of Police. The categories back in 1930 were almost identical to what we have today—murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, larceny-theft, burglary, and auto theft. (Arson came later.)

Some crime highlights from the 2009 report:

Each of the violent crime categories decreased from 2008—murder (7.3 percent), robbery (8.0 percent), aggravated assault (4.2 percent), and forcible rape (2.6 percent). Each of the property crime categories also dropped from 2008—motor vehicle theft (17.1 percent), larceny-theft (4.0 percent), and burglary (1.3 percent). Among the 1,318,398 violent crimes were 15,241 murders; 88,097 forcible rapes; 408,217 robberies; and 806,843 aggravated assaults. Among the 9,320,971 property crimes were an estimated 2,199,125 burglaries; 6,327,230 larceny-thefts; 794,616 thefts of motor vehicles; and 58,871 arsons. During 2009, the South accounted for 42.5 percent of all violent crime in the nation, followed by the West (22.9 percent), the Midwest (19.6 percent), and the Northeast (15.0 percent). During 2009, 43.9 percent of all property crimes in the U.S. were recorded in the South, with 22.7 percent in the West, 20.8 percent in the Midwest, and 12.6 percent in the Northeast.

CCW permits increase, crime rates fall. Coincidence?

Probably the last 40 years of govt. schooling has left two generations without the necessary intellectual capacity for criminal activity...

<< CCW permits increase, crime rates fall. Coincidence? >>

Only about 1-2% of the population in states that issue government permission slips (CCW permits) have permits. And there hasn’t been a substantial increase in shall-issue states between 2008 and 2009.

However, coupled with CCW permits has been a substantial increase in firearm sales starting back in November 2008 (the 0bama effect).

Now, watch as the anti-rights groups and the administration spin more people owning and carrying guns while the crime rate plumments as a need for greater restrictions on firearm ownership.

I wonder if the crime rate did go down or if cities quit reporting stats or came up with different criteria for reporting? In Columbus, Ohio this summer was labeled ‘Summer of Violence’ because of all the crime. At one point, we had 11 shootings in 3 days.
Also, I used to put together a newsletter for a local business association that included all crime statistics in their precinct. The Mayor’s office ask us to quit publishing the stats because it made the area look bad.

Can it also be in part because the government is doing their stealing for them?

The government now trains them and sets them up to have sex at a young age, with an apartment or house, food, an EBT credit card to buy dope, sneakers, video games, and they get a pay raise every time they have another illegitimate baby they can't support on their own.

Over 300 people were shot in Chicago in July. And that’s DOWN from a few years ago.

Amazing, isn't it?

CHL laws have somehow taken a lot of fun and profit out of crime. For example, you never know when one of these sorry gun nuts might just plug your sorry a$$ right when you are in the middle of innocently committing a felony.

And here in Texas, CHL has coincidentally saved the lives of over 500 cops to date which is another reason why Libtards coincidentally hate these laws.

I wonder about this. In Atlanta the first fifteen minutes of local news is devoted to body bag journalism.

The latest theory is that Roe Vs Wade has been the cause of a declining crime rate because poor women were allowed to get abortions and therefore, their children were snuffed out before they could grow up to be criminals. Sort of capital punishment before the fact...

Please refrain from shooting the messenger...

I wonder also since the news media is putting out this story now. Seems like they are gearing up to start saying how we are all now safer now with the dims in charge.
They are lying about the economy, so what is to stop them from lying about crime statistics?

Well, I don’t know about all states, but in Missouri, per data I received from the Attorny Generals Office in both DEC 2008 and March 2010 (delayed a bit I know) CCW permits in effect went from 58120 to 98105 and that equates to a 65% increase. Using Census Bureau population numbers, that turns out to be about 1.62% of Missouri resident in 2010 carrying MO endorsements compared to .98% in 2009, others carrying out of state reciprocally would add to that number.

65% increase over about a year IS a tremendous increase, by the way....

I’ll sort through the FBI numbers for MO and see if there is any anecdotal concurrence of crime rates/CCW endorsemnts.

Best;
