Heads are rolling at the Department of Motor Vehicles' San Francisco office over the "Missed Monday" we told you about a couple of weeks back.
In all, 19 of the Fell Street office's 34 staffers were no-shows Aug. 23 - the Monday that followed a forced "Furlough Friday" without pay.
The mass no-shows created a huge backup at the office, with the lines going around the block.
Sources tell us that two of the "ringleaders" have been canned and seven others with histories of taking unauthorized days off have been suspended for 15 days without pay. Ten first-time offenders were given 10 days without pay.
An office insider tells us replacement workers from outside the city were brought in to cover while the accused had their disciplinary hearings.
DMV spokesman Mike Marando said the department was barred from discussing personnel actions, but said, "We do look at each case very seriously."
The Service Employees International Union Local 1000, which represents the DMV workers, promised to get back to us just as soon as it got to the bottom of the case. We're still waiting.

Goons in purple t-shirts.
this story made a tingle run up my leg!!!!
What? Someone canned government employees for not doing their jobs? Unheard of. I’m amazed and a bit hopeful for our state government for the first time in years. I hope this starts a trend. (I have to say that my local DMV office seems to be very well run and the employees I’ve dealt with have been knowledgeable and helpful.)
When I moved here...I was in heaven when I went to register my cars. We have "Tag Agencies"...I suppose they are franchised out to independent folks.
Last time I went...I walked right in, no one there but me, and the agent. Took 10 min.
And no plates, or fee's on trailers!!
Heaven, I tell ya!!!
The emptyish streets looked like a Sunday morning downtown. Loved it.
Except when they're shilling at the SB1070 rallys. Then they change it up a bit.
LOL
A benefit of belonging to AAA is that they will accept payment and issue the registration and tags to a vehicle upon renewal of the registration. Most of the time it is a relatively short wait.
I'm having to deal with the DMV right now, trying to get a salvage title for my favorite car. You can't do this anywhere other than the DMV office. I've been there three times now, and I still don't have my title, mainly because I've gotten different instructions from different people there, plus I have a hard time understanding them (everyone I've run into there so far speaks with a heavy accent).
Not if you are Indian........
So they make Indians wait longer?
Naw...many tribes have their own registration and plates here in OK....
LOL - ok.
