Imam: NYC mosque site is not 'hallowed ground'
KOLD ^ | 09/13/10 | Jennifer Peltz

The imam leading the effort to build an Islamic community center and mosque near ground zero says there is a "misperception" that the proposed site is sacred ground.

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf said Monday that the location where the center would be built, two blocks from the World Trade Center, has a strip joint and betting parlors nearby. He says it's "absolutely disingenuous" to suggest that it is "hallowed ground."

He also says the location is important, because it will serve as a platform where the voice of moderate Muslims can be amplified.

Rauf make his remarks before the Council on Foreign Relations.

Rauf says the center will be a place for all faiths to come together. He says "the world is watching what we do here" and that it is important to "live up to our ideal."

Well, the proximity to a strip joint should be a big drawing card for the mosque.

"In Islam, every structure linked to the faith and its rituals has a precise function and character.
A mosque is a one-story gallery built around an atrium with a mihrab (a niche pointing to Mecca)
and one, or in the case of Shiites two, minarets.
This 13-story multifunctional structure couldn't be any of the above.
The groups fighting for the project know this; this is why they sometimes call it an Islamic cultural center.
But there is no such thing as an Islamic culture.
The Prophet imposed his rule on parts of Arabia through a series of ghazvas, or razzias (the origin of the English word "raid").

The ghazva was designed to terrorize the infidels, convince them that their civilization was doomed and force them to submit
to Islamic rule. Those who participated in the ghazva were known as the ghazis, or raiders.
After each ghazva, the Prophet ordered the creation of a rabat -- or a point of contact at the heart of the infidel territory raided.
The rabat consisted of an area for prayer, a section for the raiders to eat and rest and facilities to train and prepare
for future razzias. Later Muslim rulers used the tactic of ghazva to conquer territory in the Persian and Byzantine empires.
After each raid, they built a rabat to prepare for the next razzia.

It is no coincidence that Islamists routinely use the term ghazva to describe the 9/11 attacks against New York and Washington.
The terrorists who carried out the attack are referred to as ghazis or shahids (martyrs).
Thus, building a rabat close to Ground Zero would be in accordance with a tradition started by the Prophet.
To all those who believe and hope that the 9/11 ghazva would lead to the destruction of the American "Great Satan,"
this would be of great symbolic value."

"The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong
to some man as his absolute property - either as a child,
a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery
until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men."

[Winston Churchill, 1899, "The River War"]

What is or isn't sacred ground and how it is utilized is not your decision.

Tell you what Rauf. Use your money and build an ecumenical center that has no specific religious identification and that allows services equally for Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, and whomever else, and that gives no special stature for Islam, and I'll consider your comments about this being a place for all faiths to come together.

The site is historic in its own right and was hit by debris from one of the jets on 9/11.

We will tell you what is hallowed or not sheet boy.

Just repeating, possibly literally from the same page, what CNN said two weeks ago.

45-47 Park Place NYC aka ...Ground Zero Victory Mosque

FYI

45–47 Park Place, -- HISTORY
During the September 11 attacks, the then-five-story building at 45–47 Park Place,, between West Broadway and Church Street, was severely damaged. The building is located two blocks (less than 600 feet (180 meters)) north of the former World Trade Center.
That morning, the terrorists hijacked United Airlines Flight 175 as part of their attack on the World Trade Center Twin Towers. They crashed the plane into the South Tower at 9:03 a.m, triggering the destruction of the tower hours later.. The plane penetrated through the tower, and part of the plane's landing gear and fuselage came out the north side of the tower and crashed through the roof of 45–47 Park Place, and through two of its floors. The plane parts destroyed three floor beams, and severely compromised the building's internal structure.
At the time, the building was leased to the Burlington Coat Factory. Stephen Pomerantz owned the building, and his wife Kukiko Mitani, subsequently attempted to sell it for years, at one point asking for $18 million. Until its 2009 purchase, however, the building lay abandoned……..

Did I hear correctly that the wheels of one of the jets that hit the WTC came through the building and landed on the fake mosque site?
