That day, then-House Majority Leader Tom DeLay declared “victory” over government spending, saying nothing was left to cut.

That was the moment that I knew we were in trouble. When Delay announced that he couldn’t find anything to cut, I knew the House leadership had drunk the DC koolaid.

I have never been overly pro-Delay or anti-Delay. He ran a tight ship, but seems a little bit too much of a DC insider. When he said this, my jaw dropped. This is the thinking that killed the GOP on all levels between 2005 and 2008.

And you can see where this got Republicans in 2006. This shows that a Republican congress may not be the heroes many here think, especially if Republicans get the White House again.

There is always be something to cut as long as the federal government is doing things that are not in Article 1, Section 8.

Amazing that so many around here would rather go back to Delay/Hastert instead of going forward with Boehner.

RE :”Most people here are conservative first.....I personally could care less about the republican party per se!!!!

It is hard to tell what ‘most’ is sometimes but there are many ‘Republican party first’ers here and they get very aggressive at times. To them if you oppose anything a Republican does you are ‘helping the enemy’. The pro-Mccain faction is a great example. The pro-Bush faction is another.

I pings a few freepers that can attest to that.

Delay was in bed with Abramoff and Reed.

He started the K-Street project with the jihadophile Grover Norquist which transformed the Republicans into slop-wallowing hogs like the Democrats overnight.

He also helped a Chicom businessman run a sweatshop out of the Mariana Islands. The women were payed so little some had to turn tricks at night to pay the bills. Who knows how many congressmen on fact-finding missions to the Marianas benefitted from that arrangement.

I'm just saying. Just in case you want a few more reasons to dislike the human scum that is Tom Delay.

What's the point of having "Republicans" controlling Congress and the presidency if they can be easily mistaken for Democrats?
