'That's how men talk,' GOP challenger West says as Democrat Rep. Klein slams his references to 'Gestapo,' 'butt-whoopin'

Democratic U.S. Rep. Ron Klein says Republican challenger Allen West's campaign rhetoric is often "extreme" and "threatening" and "offensive."

West says Klein needs to "man up."

. . . West recently called the taping "Gestapo-type intimidation tactics" by foes out to distort his positions. Klein said the reference to Hitler's secret police showed "appalling disrespect to Holocaust victims and survivors."

Klein's campaign recently posted footage from March in which West calls Islam "a totalitarian theocratic political ideology," voices disdain for people with "Co-exist" bumper stickers and slams "chicken" leaders who read "memos from the feminists."

West accuses the left of taking selective offense. Liberals are seldom criticized for their widespread use of a vulgar term to disparage members of the tea party movement, West said, or for acts like a California homeowner's hanging Sarah Palin in effigy during the 2008 presidential campaign.

West, who often uses references from military history in his speeches, says his words are meant to inspire, not threaten.

"When John Paul Jones was asked to surrender, he said, 'I have not yet begun to fight,'" West said of the Revolutionary War naval commander. "So if I were to say that to you today, then I guess tomorrow Ron Klein would say, 'He wants to hurt me. He wants to fight me.' So, you know, tell him to man up."

West recently called Klein a "pathetic liberal," a "cretin," a "Mama's boy" for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, "little Lord Ron" and "little Ronnie" in a single blog post.

What are the poll saying about Col. West? Can’t find anything newer that April. Got the new Fox Election HQ app on my Iphone and it’s a big waste of time. Not up to date. Missing most races. Don’t waste your money.
