MACHIAS, Maine — A Roque Bluffs man was arrested Wednesday after police executed a search warrant at his home and confiscated marijuana, a rifle and nearly $13,000 in cash, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Shaun Moody, 27, was arrested for aggravated trafficking in drugs and taken to the Washington County Jail, where bail was set at $750, according to Sheriff Donnie Smith.

Police seized 30 marijuana plants, eight of them in an indoor growing operation; 321 grams of processed marijuana; a rifle and $12,788 in cash, Smith said in a press release.

The sheriff reported that a joint investigation into Moody’s activities led to the search warrant being executed for 66 Duck Cove Road in Roque Bluffs by members of his office, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Maine State Police. The trafficking charge was elevated to aggravated because of the presence of a gun at the home, according to Smith.

Moody is scheduled to appear Dec. 27 in Machias Superior Court.

The case remains under investigation, Smith said.

I heard about this arrest today on the radio.

Machias Maine is in northern maine, near nothing.

They found 420 or so GRAMS of marijuana....which was equivalant to less than ONE POUND.

They found money...cant have money anymore, can we?

They found a gun in the house which increased the charges.

The man did not use the gun, he had a gun, as does every house in Maine north of Portland.

This newstory required addional information and careful reading to realize that the encroaching laws are turning us into a police state.

I do not want to discuss the pros and cons to legalization. I want to discuss how trumped up charges and normal behaviors are becoming grist for the law enforcement mill.

This is happening in many areas, car accidents, traffic stops...

What do you see?

We are leaving our children a leftist police state.

In Rummels Death by Government the more laws a country has, the more of its citizens are killed.

Well a big $750 bail certainly indicates that the charges are not rising to a serious level.

I want to respect the police. I think we all do. They have a tough job, dealing with a lot of questionable people, and certainly risking personal injury each day.

That being said, I find myself not trusting the police very much. I don't feel that they really have my interests at heart. I consider the government to be the natural enemy of the people, and unfortunately, I begin to think of the police as enemy agents.

That’s why good people need to do jury duty. And void such an arrest.

Trumped up? He had a lb of dope and 30 plants. He was trying to make money without paying the taxes on it.

I see that a guy was purportedly growing dope in his residence. Now...regardless of wether you think that is immoral or SHOULD be against the law, we know that it is in fact against the law.

Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

People are responssible for their actions. He was doing something risky to make some money and it caught up with him.

That being said, were I on his Jury he would get a get out of jail free card.

the bail is low, but he will now have a felony on his record.

To get a license in this state of any sort to make a living one cannot have a felony on one’s record.

Get this: it doesnt mean you have to be CONVICTED of the felony, just that you were charged with a felony and convicted of SOMETHING LESS.

If you COULD have been convicted of a felony you are out of the picture. YOu cannot have a career in many fields, such as beautician, nurse, electrician....

I think it also means no gun.

This stuff is more serious than it looks...

I would make the argument that an amount of plants that low could mean it was solely for personal use.

It does not even rise to the level of a news story.

Millions of Americans self-medicate with pot. This one got caught is all.

I see the same thing, and it's not about safety....

it's about control.

It’s scary. This guy wasn’t bothing anyone, apparently. He’s minding his own business, probably growing pot for his own personal use. This happens all the time - law enforcement using up valuable resources to go after someone that is not hurting anyone - instead of going after the truly dangerous people.

but he will end up pleading to lesser charges but because of his original pumped up charges he will be prevented from obtaining a license for any work in the state such as ohhhh....nurse’s aide.
