CBS News anchor Bob Schieffer got personal with the top House Republican on "Face the Nation" Sunday, asking him whether hed consider kicking his smoking habit if he becomes speaker.
Schieffer, a former smoker and cancer survivor, noted that House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) has taken $340,000 from the tobacco industry during the course of his career. The discussion:
Bob Schieffer: "They've been the largest contributor to your political campaigns over the year. How do you square that with the fact that cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable deaths in this country, 435,000 people, their deaths are linked to cancer, that's 1 in 5. How do you justify that in your own mind?"

Nanny State PING!
The smoking may be normal but Boehner’s tan is just weird.
What the hell does one thing have to do with the other?
Has he ever had an interview with Obama, King of Smoke, and if so has this question came up?
Very, very disappointing...
STEPHANOPOULOS: Okay. Before you go, I have to note that if you do win and you do become Speaker, you will probably have the deepest tan of any Speaker in American history. And there’s actually been a poll out in your state of Ohio, saying 30 percent of the voters think you spend too much time on your tan. And 27 percent don’t like it. Is this something you have to overcome?
BOEHNER: Well, hey probably weren’t there yesterday, when I was out cutting my grass or when I was out riding my mountain bike. All right?
I hope that, either, Mike Pence, or Michele Bachmann becomes the next Speaker of the House.
I like the way 0bama teased Boehner about his tan...
“In his monologue, Obama made a reference to trying to reach out to Republicans in a bipartisan way. He said that he even reached out to Boehner because they had a lot in common. He is a person of color, although not a color that appears in the natural world,” joked the President.”
Apparently Boehner laughed at the jab.
I doubt 0bama would laugh if Boehner teased 0bama about his skin color.
it’s called a herring. Don’t ever speak of Odumbo’s failed policies............watch the burdy, while your time to speak, disappears because of network time restraints...
We should judge Boehner on the content of his character, not the color of his skin :)
They have selected Bonehead as the character to Alinskitize and demonize for the next two months.
Exactly.
The hypocrisy on display here was astounding. After all, as Schieffer noted, Barack Obama is a cigarette smoker.
But something Schieffer didn’t mention was that in 2008, Obama took more money from the tobacco industry than Boehner did.
Yet, according to LexisNexis, Schieffer has never scolded Obama for his smoking or asked him to quit in order to “set a good example.”
They can't gain ground on their own issues so they're going after one guy in hopes the nation won't vote R and put this guy in as majority leader.
This is the best the Dems can do? *snicker*
If you like Pelosi you will love the reptilian Boehner. Gosh, how I loathe these lifetime professional politicians who are just 100 percent owned by special interests.
And what did Mr. Schieffer have to say about Mr. Obama’s smoking?
Hey look, it’s tough to make an argument for smoking, but if Mr. Boehner wants to do so, it’s his business, not Mr. Schieffer’s.
Oh bob schietter has such as holier than thou attitude and tone to all his reports like he’s some elder statesman or sage. He may have quit “enhaling”, but he is happily letting nobama keep blowing smoke up his a$$ 24/7, just like the rest of the MSM.
This is the same organization that did more investigating of Joe the plumber Wurzelbacher in 24 hours than they did of Baraq in 24 months.
They’d be SHOCKED to learn that Baraq is a smoker, LOL.
