(CBS) The leading Republican in the House, and a vocal proponent of allowing an extension of the Bush-era tax cuts for all Americans, including the wealthiest 3% of earners, objected to charges by President Obama that Republicans are holding tax breaks for the bottom 97% of earners hostage unless the wealthiest also get an extension.
In a pre-taped interview to appear on CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday, Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner said that, if approving a bill to extend breaks for middle class income Americans were "the only option," he would support it.
The Congressional Budget Office has estimated extending tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans would cost $700 billion over the next decade.
At a speech in Ohio earlier this week, Mr. Obama said, "With all the other budgetary pressures we have - with all the Republicans' talk about wanting to shrink the deficit - they would have us borrow $700 billion over the next 10 years to give a tax cut of about $100,000 each to folks who are already millionaires."

Of ocurse you will John, jacka$$.
Jackass
Why should any of us pay for the mistakes the soialist loons in the White House make to further their own agenda?
Big mistake
Michelle Bachman for Speaker of the House.
Gimme a R
Gimme an I
Gimme a N
Gimme an O
What does that spell?
Boehner, Boehner, Boehner
Keeping the Bush tax cuts on the middle class means nothing if you raise the taxes on small businesses and the middle class lose their jobs.
How stupid is this?
Boner should have one upped the dems, and called for a two year payroll tax holiday for those beloved people earning $250k or less per year. Force the dems to stand against it.
Talk like this is going to keep the Democrats in power.
Absolutely she is more American than the bunch of them put together.
What is it about Versailles on the Potomac that robs a man of principles, hearing and ability to think? Get with it, Johnny Sun Tan. You obviously have not been listening.
TAXED
ENOUGH
ALREADY
That’s not a concession. The Dems set a trap and Boehner didn’t take the bait. The Dems wanted him to oppose any tax cuts unless he gets them for the top brackets. Then the Dems would have said Republicans wont accept tax cuts for the middle class unless they can get them for the rich. Bob Schaeffer tried 3 times to get Boehner to fall into that trap and he didn’t. He made it clear what he wanted, but said if his only choice is to accept tax cuts for people below $250K he would.
Nothing like running up a white flag before the battle’s been decided. It’s good to know the GOP leadership is so strong on principle. They gotta go, along with the Dims.
We are going to have to have a big fight with the Republican Ruling Class begining January 2011, which or course includes Boehner.
The CBO is full of crap too. Tax cuts cost nothing, zip, natta.
Name one dime that government is forced to pay out because taxes are cut?
Are there any leaders left in the GOP?
