LONDON Transmission of the AIDS virus seems to be "out of control" among gay men in France despite an overall fall in the number of new HIV cases in the country, according to a study published on Thursday.
Scientists from the French National Institute for Public Health Surveillance found that nearly half of the 7,000 people newly infected with HIV in the country in 2008 were gay men, and the incidence among homosexual men is 200 times higher than in the heterosexual population.
Experts said the findings showed that French authorities needed to revise and renew prevention strategies and ensure they were properly targeted at groups most at risk of HIV infection.

Yet *another* reason to stay out of France.
Oh really?
so all the crap hyping that everybody is equally vulnerable is just a lying bastardization of scientific data for political purposes?
By now, homosexuals in civilized countries have no excuse in not knowing how to prevent spreading HIV.
It’s fascinating to read that gay men still won’t follow the very basic guidelines to protect themselves yet they clamor for more funding and protection. I’d also like to know how prevalent IV drug use or use of amyl nitrate still is within this segment of the gay community. My guess it’s still rampant.
Look up “bug chasers” to see how twisted some of that community are.
“Toot sweet”...what do you expect?
The anus wasn't designed for penus penetration, it compromises, ie. breaks through the inner bowel walls, mixes with blood and, there you go, disease and death!
The Biblical version is that they are given over to their own perversions and are righteously rewarded for their own deeds. (Paraphrasing here).
amyl nitrate? I had to Google that. Seems rather pointless to me. But then, so does all drug abuse.
That’s impossible. Anyone that watches the TV news knows that AIDS isn’t a “gay disease”!! </SARC>
When was it ever under control?

French Gay Men.
I may have had a gay waiter once in France though it may have also been part of his linguistic "schtick" for the foreigners (English is the lingua franca for my committees), but I have thoroughly enjoyed my visits to France.
And even in Paris (twice) I have yet to meet the "rude Frenchman."
If you want to stay out of France I am fine with that -- the fewer Americans who go there the lower the prices for the rest of us. But I hope to return, many times. (And I don't speak French.)

Where is Captain Obvious when he's needed?
I didn’t say I have never been; I toured the country in a rented Saab 9-5 Turbo back in 2002. It was a trip I thoroughly enjoyed but I just choose not to return. If that benefits you in any way...cool.
When was it ever under control?
Excellent point, and why I think in the early eighties it should have been classified as an epidemic. Perhaps an entire generation of hemophiliacs might have been saved, but PC was running rampant, and no dice on the epidemic and associated protection for the general public.
*Yawn* So what else is new.
