LONDON Transmission of the AIDS virus seems to be "out of control" among gay men in France despite an overall fall in the number of new HIV cases in the country, according to a study published on Thursday.
Scientists from the French National Institute for Public Health Surveillance found that nearly half of the 7,000 people newly infected with HIV in the country in 2008 were gay men, and the incidence among homosexual men is 200 times higher than in the heterosexual population.
Experts said the findings showed that French authorities needed to revise and renew prevention strategies and ensure they were properly targeted at groups most at risk of HIV infection.

Amyl nitrates (poppers) are used by gay men to “relax” their muscles. Nitrate use over long periods of time can destroy the immune system. I am one who subscribes to Dr. Peter Duesberg theory that drug use/malnurishment causes AIDS and not HIV. HIV is just a “carrier’ virus and shows up once the immune system is compromised.
You are soooooo insesnsitive! /s
“...the incidence among homosexual men is 200 times higher than in the heterosexual population.”
Oh .... and dow does the virus know to attack homosexuals and leave the rest of us alone?
OOH LA LA
That could explain why Magic Johnson has been HIV positive for so long yet doesn't have AIDS.

The dead aren't counted.
Since this all started. We are supposed to feel sorry for them when their lifestyles are out of control.I dont feel sorry for them. The are more than aware of the consequences but something just wont click.

Any correlation between smoking cigarettes and HIV? Because if they're smoking cigarettes, they are really in trouble, healthwise.
I don't know what their rate of infection is, but it must be immense considering that gay men only account - at best - for 3% of the population.

Since the statistics are reliant on honest answers from the respondents, the numbers are not completely trustworthy. If you include the “straight” men that frequent the gay clubs, bath houses and other locales for completely random gay encounters, the number is likely closer to 90%. IV drug abusers and promiscuous heterosexuals make up the rest. Go to any AIDS treatment center and you'll be amazed at the number of HIV positive men that still claim that they have no idea how they contracted it.
Thank you for that! I'm glad you enjoyed your visit; I feel much the same about the UK though it seems I will have to return. There are things I don't like about France (for example they way overheat their buildings -- maybe it's their *cheap* nuclear energy), but I hold the French in fairly high regard.
And their wines... even the cheap stuff in the bouchons is pretty good by my (American) standards.
IMHO we should be making friends with the French (my frankophone wife might exclude their ladies *\;-), not denigrating them. They're not like us, but much closer than, say, the Saudis.

I don't think it's quite that high, as men don't outpace women by that much in total infections, but your point is well taken.
Now, I think it's very likely that these women are being infected by bi-sexual men - mostly black men on the "down low" - the black female infection rate is the second most frequently infected demographic.
Isn’t “French gay men” rather redundant?

Yeppers,
This is a lifestyle we should celebrate...NOT!
