A U.S. drone strike early Thursday killed at least six militants in Pakistan's northwestern tribal belt near the Afghan border, security officials said.
The latest strike hit North Waziristan, the same tribal district targeted in three other drone attacks in the past 24 hours and a renowned hub for Taliban and al Qaeda-linked militants, AFP reported.
A total of 24 militants were killed in the four strikes.
The target of the fourth drone attack was a compound in the outskirts of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan.
"Two U.S. drones fired three missiles. We have reports that six militants were killed," a security official based in Peshawar told AFP.
Residents in Miranshah said they heard three huge explosions and later the villagers started announcements from local mosques asking for help.
"Militants have dug out six dead bodies, five people were critically wounded," a local resident told AFP, requesting anonymity.

I wonder how good these body counts really are. We’ve had various examples of claims that a certain targeted individual had been blown away in such strikes, only to soon see him talking to the press the following month. Or worse, seeing him claimed killed yet again in later bombings. Think Chemical Ali.

This was exactly my reaction. If he can do this before Nov. 2, I think he is foolishly expecting his approval ratings to skyrocket back to 70%. Ain’t gonna happen, but I do worry about whether such an event would take the edge off voter anger and result in slimmer Dem majorities in House and Senate rather than Republican takeover. Sweet justice would be taking out OBL on Nov. 3 AFTER Dems have been slaughtered in the voting booth.
