It turns out there was a Muslim prayer room on the 17th floor of the south tower of the World Trade Center, where Americans and other traveling Muslims prayed every day.

On September 11th, 2001, when a handful of terrorists flew planes into the towers, some of the folks who used the room evacuated in time. Others probably didn't.

In other words, there already was a "ground zero mosque"--used by Muslim Americans who were murdered just like everyone else.

I remember seeing something about the WTC and its building in the 70s. The documentary lasted over 2 hours, IIRC. The Arab arches repeating were mentioned, as was a comment about Islamists (Bin Laden?) being angry about the use of Islamic architecture. I remember thinking that was an odd way of looking at things.

I got this in an email today. Don't know about the truth of it.

In Seville, Spain, the City Council authorized the construction of a Mosque on one of the empty pieces of land. The citizens did not want the mosque built in their vicinity and found a brilliant solution. They buried a pig in the land, and made the news public. The Islamic law prohibits the construction of a mosque on lands desecrated by remains of pigs, therefore the Muslims had to renounce the construction on this desecrated land...

Astute Sevillans…The commentaries of the Civil Guard (Police) are very interesting. Maybe it is the solution needed by New York to avoid the construction of a mosque in the vicinity of the twin towers.

The Israelis are using a similar strategy since 2004. They placed a box
containing pig lard on the buses in Israel and made it public that any kamikaze suicide bomber who tries to assault a bus, risks the prohibition of entering heaven by getting the pig lard on them.  

There are no suicide bombers on the buses in Israel any more. Maybe we should try this here in america as well. Bring on the "BLT" sandwiches.

If the Greek Orthodox have the constitutional right to be denied their church, then Muslims have the same constitutional right to be denied their mosque.

A prayer room is not a mosque. In Muslim countries we have prayer rooms in US Embassies.

I believe Ground Zero should remain in monument to all the victims of 9/11 in a structural steel form as the striking background "remains" in your picture where all Americans can visit, as they do the Vietnam Wall. I would gladly give my taxpayer dollars to see this monument created in tribute to the victims of that terrible day that will forever go down in history. A tribute also to those who gave of themselves for others in their rescue mission to save their fellow man[woman].So many unsung heroes gave of themselves on that day and many endless days after.

If any building is constructed on top of this harrowed ground, then generations will forget..and dictators will say it never happened, like the Holocaust never happened.

Religion and state are as one in Islam. The mosque at Ground Zero will become a political statement of the conquest of America. Terrorists who pray to Allah in the Muslim world will certainly rejoice and claim they have won the war against the West. More will follow Anwar al-Awlaki's words: "I Pray that Allah Destroys America".
