WASHINGTON (AFP) – US President Barack Obama said Friday that talks between Israel and the Palestinians here last week "exceeded expectations" and vowed to stand with both sides in peace moves.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas "came with a sense of purpose and seriousness and cordiality that frankly exceeded lots of people's expectations," Obama told a press conference.

Obama recalled that the two leaders affirmed the goal of creating two states living side by side and set up a schedule to meet every two weeks.

If you solve the Palestinian problem, you fix the Middle East, right?

Good luck. Young men have grown gray trying..

When expectations are not announced aforehand, then I call BS on “exceeding expectations”.

Things are always rosy as long as Israel is willing to give in. The moment the Palestinians are asked to give in, the whole effort collapses and Israel gets the blame.

Why shouldn’t Palestinian leaders be thrilled to attend a conference where their neighbor will be forced to give in, and nothing will be asked of them in return?

Every president enters his administration thinking he’s the brain-trust that will introduce peace to the region. And then they strong arming Israel.

Every president leaves office thinking, “If I’d only had six more months...”

This reaches the level of sick comedy, except Israeli lives hang in the balance. As missiles rain on it, our administrations focus on the need for Israel to show good faith.

Beats anything I’ve ever seen.

If the Palestinian didn’t pull a gun or a knife. It exceeded expectations.

Rod Sterling would have been hard pressed to write a Twilight Zone episode more bizarre then the Mideast peace process.

Did you know that Abbas’ term expired a long time ago? Who does he represent? A first year law student at the lowest tier law school could explain to the “harvard lawyer” and community organizer that under the laws of agency, Abbas has no legal competency to negotiate anything.

Hamas, and a sizable chunk of the Palestinian Arabs, do not give these talks their consent. Some might say the same about a proportion of Israelis but the difference is that Israel is a democracy and the people are bound by even idiotic moves by their elected representatives.

It’s a lose/lose for Israel. There is no possible way Israel gains anything under any circumstance. Whatever they concede, they are made more vulnerable and the war continues. If they choose not to commit suicide, they are blamed by being obstinate and damaging consequences will follow.

Must have been pretty low expectations. I do recall that Carter and Clinton both took turns at Middle East peace when things at home were not going well for them. In each case, nothing meaningful was achieved. I have no idea why Mr. Skittles is playing this out since he already has the peace prize sought desparately by Clinton. Peace is a result of one side winning and the other recognizing they lost. You will never achieve peace without allowing the reality of the ground game to play itself out first. For all their big talk, I don’t think the PA really wants to find out who can win the ground game. I think they know.

In other words, it didn’t end in gunfire. Just about everything is surprising our country’s experts these days.

How difficult could it have been to exceed the expectations? Obama also:
vowed to stand with both sides in peace moves
Imagine how difficult that will be. Thanks NormsRevenge.

PM Netanyahu: "I love these talks! 'President' Abbas gets to talking, and I sometimes forget that he's got no power, refuses to discuss any meaningful issues or concessions, but is kept in guns and butter by the US, UN, and EU."

Keep talking.

Two months from now ...the point is moot.

If I were Netanyahu I’d yes these losers for just as long as it takes to see these Bozos tarred and feathered by the populace.

Obama People, make me losing my mind!
