It just happened. Not much info on it yet.
**URGENT** KGO-TV: Reported "explosion" near San Francisco grows to 6-alarm fire. http://twitter.com/USABreakingNews
Terrorism? Really? What evidence leads you to that conclusion?
By the way, welcome to FR.
local TV news.. a number of folks in the area reported the sounds of a plane, possibly a jet,, before explosion.. SFO says they aren’t aware of any crashes.. so far..
the area covered is pretty large
Totally off topic, but I just noticed that timestamp on FR’s posts is off by 7 minutes. Hope everything’s okay with the software/servers.
San Fran ATIS makes no indication of the smoke, and there are no runway closures and no delays.

Don’t know anything yet.
Prayers that no one is hurt, but that looks bad.
I don’t think it is a plane crash. Way south of the regular flight path out of SFO. I regularly watch planes fly overhead, and the fire is far south from the path. And I didn’t hear any planes in distress or exploding. Can see bright bursts of orange flames, so something is fueling the fire. Lots of trees in the canyons here, but doubt that’s creating the orange flames.
Gas main?
HMMMMM..lots of fires lately! OH WELL, I’ll be the first to say it...IT’S BUSH FAULT!!
Didn’t something just like this happen in Detroit the other night?
It’s a gas main explosion.
I think you’re right. Sounds like something else happened.
Guessing something underground exploded, like a huge gas line. I am a woman, so forgive me. :)
Why would you say something like that?
CNN nor Fox covering this!
Former Firefighter: If there was a gas station or gas explosion or fire, there would be thick black smoke, which there is not at this time.

Terrifying.
ABC7: “It has been burning for over an hour and we don’t know what caused it”
“Fire fighters can’t get close”
This is what I don’t understand ATC would know by now if they were missing a plane and the gas company would know by now if they had a leak.
It’s possible,, lines when they let go can make some unusual noises and the explosions can be pretty intense.
Watching local SF TV feed (internet TV watching Minn NO dont tell) and they are saying at least 20 homes on fire. It’s sickening to think of the damage one boobytrapped gas main could do. We’ll never know. It’s bad. Real bad according to local TV.
