Imam says religion, Islamic center should not be 'politicized'
CNN ^ | September 8, 2010 | CNN Wire Staff

(CNN) -- Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the religious leader behind plans to erect an Islamic center and mosque a few blocks from New York's ground zero, said Wednesday night that moving it to another location would embolden Islamic radicals and help them incite violence against Americans.

"If we move from that location, the story will be the radicals have taken over the discourse," Rauf told CNN's Soledad O'Brien on "Larry King Live."

Rauf said he was speaking about "radicals" on both sides of the debate on the Islamic center. "Our national security now hinges on how we negotiate this, how we speak about it."

"The battlefront is between moderates of all sides... and the radicals on all sides," he said.

The imam spoke of "a vision I've had for almost 15 years ... to establish a space that embodies the fundamental

beliefs that we have as Jews, Christians and Muslims, which is to love our God and to love our neighbor -- to build a space where we have a culture of worship."

Rauf said he would continue speaking with families of those killed in the September 11, 2001, attacks. "You cannot heal a trauma by walking away from it," he said.

Opposition goes against "the fundamental American principle of separation of church and state," said Rauf, adding he has been surprised by the vocal opposition.

The controversial project, known as Park51, is slated to include a variety of facilities, including a prayer room, a performing arts center, gym, swimming pool and other public spaces. It is planned for a site two blocks from the World Trade Center.

If the guy is halfway truthful he's getting ready to initiate a new Islamic sect that will draw assassins from ALL the others.

Do we need that on top of Ground Zero?

Shove it Rauf! You’re the one that is “politicizing” it! Build your Victory Mosque of Red Death somewhere else.

Presumably the air landing strip will be the WTC towers when constructed...unless they become minarets for sounding the call to prayer.

There is no such thing as moderate Islam.

All knowingly subscribe to Sharia which is a pillar of their societal structure.

When the founding fathers thought of America, their little baby, the last thing they wanted was an invasive force to stifle, smother it, and then overwhelm it and kill it.

Most people do not recognize that what happens in a mosque is sedition. Pure and simple. Islam is not just a “religion”, it is a cult. Larger than that though, it is a political system, it is it’s own government, a economic system (which includes funding new mosque construction), its judicial...all wrapped up in the word sharia. This is inclusive of its military (jihadis) all rolled into one with one intent ...and that is to rule wherever they take root. It is a invasive, systemic infection looking to take over the host once it has quantum.

This is not just a “religion”, but something that cloaks itself in those terms so it should not be given the same treatment contemplated under the first amendment. The Korans Sharia rules are to consume whatever government there is wherever it goes.
Islam is political, and it’s goal is to supplant and replace. Globally.

When the founding fathers thought of America, their little baby, the last thing they wanted was an invasive force to stifle, smother it, and then overwhelm it and kill it.

The sooner America learns this , the better. Some know and many do not, but it is a threat to everything America knows.

Obama? Obama and Company? Should be tried for treason in this issue for promoting the establishment of a foreign government on our soils. He is doing nothing to protect America as per his oath. Also, as a Muslim, he knows this, he know far better, he knows sharia, but is looking to deceive America.

If you don’t want it “politicized,” M.F., don’t try to build it in Lower Manhattan!

IOW, he has no idea what he's bullshitting about. He's also hitting the same talking points as the partisan media shills, which shows what they and he are about. Thanks MinorityRepublican.

“our national security now hinges on how we negotiate this”.
I watched some of this interview and that statement sounds like a threat.
CNN Soledad O’Brien did a fair job conducting the interview, from what I saw.
The woman who lost a loved one held her own in the after interview discussion.
God Bless her. She will no doubt get slammed by many, I fear.
However, the U.S.A. has been threatened tonight by Imam Rauf.

Our national security now hinges on…whether America offends Islam by resisting its encroachment?

Bring it on, and Islam will see America once more become an alpha country.

A very timely post and deserves patience from those who do not follow CNN, if they link to it, I had the Larry King introduction to the appearance of Imam Rauf. It was the soft voiced Soledad O'Brien that interviewed the Imam. I tried to be objective. The one thing that has to be said, is of the way of delivery by the Imam. He knows how to disarm certain viewers.

I knew he was a very astute man and media savvy. Later I tuned in, for the pundits views. They replayed the Imam's statement on what could happen. Seems that what he said could be construed as a threat; or if one wished, a fair warning. He said (as I interpreted it) that the burning could bring on worse reactions, than the publishing of the cartoons in the newspaper in Europe.

One of the pundits said it sounded like a threat. A formidable adversary. He must not win on Ground Zero.

Cross two streets from the mosque and you will be right at the World Trade Center site. If you crossed the street from the mosque, walked through the front and back doors of the buildings across from the mosque, then crossed the second street and walked through the front and back doors of those buildings, you will be right at the World Trade Center.

The new World Trade Center will be a very tall building that will loom over all of the other buildings around it so when the muslims are looking out the window of their mosque, they will actually be looking right at the World Trade Center up close. The World Trade Center will be right in their faces.

There’s thousands of mosques in the United States - and none of them are ‘politicized’... could the location have something to do with the problem??

The imam tries to project an image of a quiet and thoughtful person but have you ever noticed how Osama bin Laden also projects that same image? If you didn't know what bin Laden did you would actually think that he was a soft-spoken saintly man. That is how he comes across in all of his videos. You can't judge a book by its cover.
