Get an Injunction (New Republic Calls on Obama to Stop Koran Burning Protest)
The New Republic ^ | Wednesday, September 8, 2010 | Martin Peretz

Posted on 09/08/2010 6:17:35 PM PDT by kristinn

The Dove World Training Center in Gainesville, Florida and its pastor Perry (sic) Jones plan a Koran bonfire on the ninth anniversary of the World Trade Center-Pentagon enormity.

SNIP

But it is disgusting. And it is disgusting no matter how many people believe the act would be and should be protected by the First Amendment.

In fact, it is uncivilized. I believe that the Obama administration should go to the Supreme Court or maybe tactically to the most sensible and civilized appellate court and seek an injunction against this atrocity that 1. will encourage Muslim madmen to respond in kind and 2. will also encourage primitive Christians to extend and expand the auto da fé.

See how quick liberals are to throw out the First Amendment?

No kidding. Liberals are very quick to show their fascist tendencies. And, for the record, I think this guy shouldn't be burning qurans, but he has the constitutional right to do so...just like the imam...he has the right to build at ground zero, but he shouldn't. Liberal hypocrisy is always astounding.

I wish someone would post that picture of Bill Ayers STANDING on the American flag right after the attack on the towers...

No one, but patriots, seemed to give a hoot in hell about THAT!

you can bet the liberals would not be saying a word right now if it was a Bible being burned!

...oh wait a minute, they didn’t say a word when the US Military burned Bibles in Afghanistan in 2008

Well since some stupid republicans chose to chime in on an issue that wasn’t thier issue, it now becomes their issue too.

Proving that America is doomed. If this were muslims burning a Bible the politicians would be silent ot take the side of the muzzies citing freedom of speech.

Sometimes it is wise to keep the mouth shut.

We need to step up and defend that idiot in Florida:

Concerning the burning of the Koran:

Most people start this conversation by condemning the Pastor for burning the Koran because it is inciteful. What they also do is add in one sentence about our free speech and how he has the right to do this.

What is left out is everything else people say afterwards, about how this is anti-Christian, this is against common sense, it will cause riots, it is hate filled, the Pastor is a nut, blah blah

What everyone ends up doing is making a SINGLE sentence on his right to dissent and then 8 or 9 sentences about why it is wrong.

THE POINT: All that does is create an air of APOLOGY to Islam and Muslims. It makes us sound weak, we sound sorry, we condemn one of our own in the same breath we support our own. We end up telling the world we don’t want to upset people with the actions of one rude person so please believe the rest of us don’t want to hurt you.

It is a HUGE apology attitude to ISLAM in general.
As Richard Cox said, I am glad there is one guy who is telling the truth. And yes, I would not recommend this, but for God’s sake!

WE ARE ABANDONING OUR OWN CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS TO FREE SPEECH TO PLACATE A RELIGION THAT WANTS TO KILL US AND THEIR ANGER AT THIS IS MORE PROOF THEY ARE A VIOLENT MURDER CULT AND NOT A GENUINE RELIGION OF GOD!!

Vicevich himself, all the 3 hours of his show today when he spoke of it, made one or two sentences in his times of how that guy has the right, but he always said MORE about how he disagreed with the guy and then let most callers speak of how they disagreed with the guy doing it, their Christian faith, inciting riots, blah blah.

By NOT confronting the Islamic world on this, we are ABANDONING our rights as Americans, and THAT is the larger and more prominent issue in all this.

Military burns unsolicited Bibles sent to Afghanistan
May 22, 2009 — Updated 0624 GMT (1424 HKT)

(CNN) — Military personnel threw away, and ultimately burned, confiscated Bibles that were printed in the two most common Afghan languages amid concern they would be used to try to convert Afghans, a Defense Department spokesman said Tuesday.

The unsolicited Bibles sent by a church in the United States were confiscated about a year ago at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan because military rules forbid troops of any religion from proselytizing while deployed there, Lt. Col. Mark Wright said.

Such religious outreach can endanger American troops and civilians in the devoutly Muslim nation, Wright said.

“The decision was made that it was a ‘force protection’ measure to throw them away, because, if they did get out, it could be perceived by Afghans that the U.S. government or the U.S. military was trying to convert Muslims,” Wright told CNN on Tuesday.

Troops at posts in war zones are required to burn their trash, Wright said.

The Bibles were written in the languages Pashto and Dari.

This decision came to light recently, after the Al Jazeera English network aired video of a group prayer service and chapel sermon that a reporter said suggested U.S. troops were being encouraged to spread Christianity.

Well, if the writer hasn't established anything else, he has certainly established that he doesn't have the first clue how the federal judiciary works. Not even a little bit.

Maybe it would help if the cultists didn’t post 78 threads a day about your Precious. Especially ones where she baegs the pastor to “stand down”

Once again, leader of the Duncan Hunter cult trashing others for posting too many threads about someone they like is the most laughable thing ever on FR.

Well...delightful to see that the folks at New Republic are capable of moral outrage. I’m sure they’re equally offended when Bibles are burned - or American flags, or when the Westboro “Baptists” protest at the funerals of military heroes.

See how quick liberals are to throw out the First Amendment?

Unless, of course, it's the Flag, the Bible, or effigies of Republican leaders that are being burned ... then they're pretty cool with the First Amendment. That wouldn't be "hate speech"; it would be "free speech". That's the problem with Liberals ... no moral compass.
