FreedomWorks fights back against NAACP's accusations of Tea Party 'racism'
Daily Caller ^ | 9/7/2010 | Matthew Boyle

Posted on 09/08/2010 8:48:27 AM PDT by Altura Ct.

Dick Armey’s conservative organization FreedomWorks is readying for the launch of a comprehensive political program aimed at debunking the NAACP’s race-charged attacks on the Tea Party movement.

FreedomWorks President and CEO Matt Kibbe said the organization will roll out Diverse Tea, a platform and advertising campaign that will showcase diversity in the Tea Party movement, sometime this week or early next week.

“The idea is to create a platform for African-American Tea Party leaders, Hispanic Tea Party leaders and Jewish Tea Party leaders to get out there and talk about why they’re involved and why these issues matter so much to them,” Kibbe said.

Kibbe said the NAACP is trying to change the conversation from the “failed policies of the stimulus and they don’t want to talk about unemployment and they sure as heck don’t want to talk about a government takeover of health care.”

The NAACP is just one of the many left-wing organizations that fear the Tea Party, Kibbe explained.

“It’s ironic that the left that so eagerly celebrates the notion of diversity is attacking what I believe to be the most diverse political movement in my lifetime,” Kibbe said. “They [the left] are afraid of the Tea Party and, frankly, they’re afraid of the diversity of the Tea Party. If you actually take the time to get to know the people in the Tea Party movement, you see an amazing amount of diversity – not just different skin colors but people literally from all walks of life that have united around the idea that the government is too big and is spending too much money it doesn’t have.”

As a part of FreedomWorks’ overall counter to the NAACP’s teapartytracker.org, former Garland, Texas NAACP chapter president and current Tea Party leader, The Rev. C.L. Bryant, is developing a feature-length documentary called “Runaway Slave.”

Bryant, who left the NAACP because he was upset with what he perceived to be the organization’s focus on liberal politics and lack of interest in civil rights, said the film will show viewers how organizations like the NAACP use their clout to keep people under their control. He says he’s a “runaway slave” in modern terms because he isn’t accepting the status quo.

The whole idea behind the film, Bryant said, is to encourage Americans to “flee economic slavery, run toward the blessing of liberty.”

“Two Octobers ago, when John McCain and then-Senator Barack Obama came off the campaign trail to sign onto to TARP, I realized that this was going to enslave the American people,” Bryant said.

Bryant said the film is going to take on the ideas of the current left establishment by showing viewers stops along the Underground Railroad between Atlanta and Delaware.

“There are people in the world who do have shackles on them, but here in America, a person has full rights of the Constitution, regardless of their skin color,” Bryant explained. “In fact, I defy anyone to name one thing in this country at this point in time that would hinder you from being whatever you want to be because of your skin color – it just does not exist.” Brendan Steinhauser, FreedomWorks’ director of federal and state campaigns, can’t believe the NAACP would say the Tea Party is racist – he says he has been to numerous Tea Party rallies and hasn’t met a single racist yet.

“Al Sharpton and his National Action Network

doesn’t have any real support among the American people,” Steinhauser said. “There’s a very stark contrast in what we’re doing – everyone pays their own way, they organize the buses locally, they fly in and pay their own way, they stay in hotels and pay their own way.”

Kibbe doesn’t think the left will ever stop trying to taint the Tea Party movement. If it’s not charges of “racism,” it’ll be something else.

“Racism is the latest in a long series of attacks trying to discredit the men and women of the Tea Party movement,” Kibbe said. “First, they were ‘fake,’ then they were ‘puppets’ for some corporate interest and, then, when those didn’t work and reporters went out and actually started to talk to these folks and realize that they were real and their concerns were real, then they started with the more nasty stuff.”

Bryant said he’s hoping the documentary will be done by next spring. He is currently waiting on donations to start flowing into FreedomWorks from the general public to get the rest of production completed.

Who cares? Why bother to even counter it.

The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE.

I am not ‘colored’. I am therefore not someone they are trying to “advance”. They are there to support one race, and one race only. That’s their stated goal. If you are not of their race, they are either irrelevant or evil, depending on your views.

If you view organizing along racial lines as legitimate, but are not black, they are irrelevant. If you view organizing along racial lines as racist, they are.

Freedomworks would be wise to ignore the NAACP fantasies. The NAACP is just trying to grab attention and control the message.

Ignore them and render them impotent.

So far as I know, BREITBART's offer of $100,000 still stands for anyone in the Racebaiter's Party to prove any racism occurred at Pelosi's march of the gavel.

These people talk the talk, but they can't walk the walk. Like obama, they're all hat, and no cattle.

Ditto to all who oppose this. This movement by Army seems to me to be a deliberate attempt to cause a division of the Tea Party, and is not a good thing.

Who made Dick Army spokesman for our Tea Party? Still trying to worm his way into revelance again. He is an opportunist HAS BEEN, never more.

Glen Beck held the most wonderful Freedom/UNITY celebration in DC, all races and faiths of people CAME together with a purpose and we all loved it. NO, NO, Dick Army just can't stand that, he wants to DIVIDE? .

Agreed, identity politics over issue politics. Army seems more and more to be just another has been who sees a way to greater glory by hitching onto and "leading" the Tea Party folks.

Get out of the way Army if you want do play the same diversity game as the liberals.

The tea party leaders need to let Mr. Amnesty/free trade at any cost- Dick Armey know he needs to STOP hijacking their movement for his own gain.

It’s time to remove the stranglehold Democrats have on the black vote by empowering black voices to make the case.

Oh, please. The Rove strategy/fantasy has already wasted years of our time, and failed.

Blacks are trending *more* Democrat over time, not less. We can continue chasing our tails by praising (far-leftists) MLK, supporting anti-White policies like affirmative action, claiming that the GOP is the natural home of 'pro-family Latinos' while MS-13 continues to grow in our cities, or we could admit the obvious: Blacks mostly like big government, want handouts, cherish entitlements, and require affirmative action to move into the middle class. They know it, which is why they vote 90% Dem.

The GOP should quit wasting time with idiotic strategies to attract them. Instead it should drop the obsession with diversity (which is itself a weapon of cultural destuction weilded with deadly effect by the left, now being embraced by our idiot "leaders" like Rove, Armey, Martinez, Steele), drop the Glenn Beck style kowtowing to minorities, stop the pandering and tokenism (Colin Powell as the 'great black hope' of the GOP, how'd that work out for ya'?), ignore the "racist" charge whether thrown by the NAACP, the ACLU or ABCNNBCBS and get on with fixing things for the majority.

Any minorities who want to tag along are more than welcome, but no more special pleadings, please.

PS: If we really want minorities in the GOP we should target Asians, especially Northern Asians and Indians, who are also adversely effected by affirmative action, are preyed upon by the lumpen hordes of the city / Obama supporters, etc. A Chinese-American software engineer or Indian accountant already has the basic infrastructure to support conservative beliefs: literacy, education, self-sufficiency, work ethic, ability to compete on merit.

Even at the Obama level of 'black achievement' whate we are seeing it is mostly a charade, only made possible by liberalism. (Else: why not SAT's, LSATs, transcripts, etc.)

You didn’t watch the video. No problem.

I’d like to set them free again, not pander to them to get their votes.

It sounds like an interesting race.

The 9th Congressional District of Tennessee is a Congressional district in southwestern Tennessee. The district is located entirely within Shelby County, and includes most of the city of Memphis. It is the state's only district located entirely in one county, as well as the state's only African-American-majority district.

Running Black Republican candidates against Jewish Democratic or White Democratic incumbants is a great tactical move. Well done.

What's not a great tactical move is overlooking more qualified White candidates for majority White districts, state or national elections out of a GOP version of "affirmative action". Our recent history is filled with "great pretenders".

Poster children: Michael Steele, Colin Powell, Armstrong Williams, J.C. Watts, etc.

When it came down to it, all these Black politicians showed that they were much more loyal to their race than to their supposed embrace of GOP ideals. Yet Beck, Rove, Armey et. al. keep telling us to try again. That's idiotic. Why Black Republicans Support Obama

Why would you oppose someone who is not using OUR money to do something on our behalf? Sure, the MSM will continue to claim we’re racists, but having some ads out there that are positive for us will only help.

True for these guys. I’ve met Charlotte several times, and friends of hers, she’s more like a soft voiced Sarah Palin.

The Shelby Co GOP in the past has run a black male candidate against the black dem incumbent Harold Ford Jr and he lost big time.

Things are slightly different this time around unemployment is 10% in Memphis, illegals are taking jobs that young blacks and whites would have normally taken, poverty is up despite the billions thrown at it. You name what is wrong with a big city run by demwits and that is what is wrong with Memphis.

Many have written the US 9th TN off as a lost cause.

Charlotte has cross over appeal for black and white. What she lacks is a war chest. Which her 2 term opponent has plenty of.
