Say goodbye to the 10-point lead Republicans enjoyed in last week's Gallup poll of generic congressional preferences.
Gallup's weekly tracking poll of the generic ballot, a key predictor of voters' actions in elections, showed Democrats and Republicans tied at 46 percent -- down from the 10-point lead the GOP held just a week ago.
The shift, the polling group noted, marked the first time in five weeks where Republicans didn't hold some sort of advantage over Democrats. Last week's 51-41 percent lead was heralded as "unprecedented" for Republicans.
The survey, which tracks voters' preference in a matchup of a generic Democratic and Republican candidates for Congress, still shows a hearty enthusiasm gap for the GOP. The party still leads Democrats by 25 percent in voter enthusiasm, and the GOP leads independents by 22 percent in the same measure.

anyone that believes this has been dropped on their head. Rasmussen just had it a 12 points yesterday.
The Kenyan has given Gallup their marching orders from now until the election.
"These results are based on aggregated data from more than 1,650 registered voters surveyed Aug. 30-Sept. 5 as part of Gallup Daily tracking." That is -- including two days of a three day holiday weekend. Some people spent the holiday outside with friends and family. Some spent it inside with the blinds drawn and the door barred. Who was at home to answer the phone? Which pattern fits a typical Democrat, and which pattern fits a typical Republican?
The Dems are whistling past the graveyard. They are in deep doo-doo.
Damn right!!
Ain’t that the truth.
This is complete BS. They are trying to motivate the base.
10 points, somone from the polling dept is gettign paid off from ther DNC so they will look like the “winners” and the dumb sheep like people will vote for the “winner”.
I think polling should be illegal except for exit polling the night fo the elections. Or make it illegal X number of months before an election. Too many people feel like they have to vote for the “winner”...
Silly Americans.
Axelrod was just shown on Fox revealing that apparently; Rahm Emmanuel has been appointed by POTUS to be the next Mayor of Chicago.
And you thought there were elections/s
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 48% of Likely Voters would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate, while 36% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent.
I would say it is the Gallup Poll that is cooking the books or just flat wrong.
I wonder if they fear the social unrest that is likely to follow a stolen election that their opponents went into with a 10 point lead...
As another FReeper stated,
many are ready to
“re-negotiate the social contract, with extreme prejudice”.
The poll was taken at DNC headquarters during a Union rally!
Gallup not credible. Forget them. They are the poll group that BOR says are legit. Enuf said.
You are correct. It’s a poll that tracked over a holiday weekend that is typically 3-4 days long.
It fudged the numbers for this poll, and will straighten out on the next one.
LOL! I noticed that, too. Just can't seem to quench the ex-English teacher in me.
vaudine
Uh, yeah. It shifted 10 points in one week. Is there some kind of government handout check I missed in the mail?
Why not hold your sniping until after Obama’s whiny speech later today. I would venture to guess we’ll hear something from her later.
And nearly everyone else has it as +8 or so for the GOP over the same period. Gallup is just the outlier this week.
That is simply good politics...you have to win over the middle.
Painting the Tax dispute as a battle between the "Freezers" and the "Jack-Ups" is good messaging, plain and simple.
It depends on who is doing the counting. There is such a thing as a stacked deck.
