I recommend every Freeper read William Graham Sumner’s essay, “The Forgotten Man.”
He was a prophet, of sorts. Unbelievably astute.

I'm reading Amity Schlaes "The Forgotten Man" and learned about the essay there. The opening of the essay is quoted by Schlaes and says it all...
The type and formula of most schemes of philanthropy or humanitarianism is this: A and B put their heads together to decide what C shall be made to do for D. The radical vice of all these schemes, from a sociological point of view, is that C is not allowed a voice in the matter, and his position, character, and interests, as well as the ultimate effects on society through C's interests, are entirely overlooked. I call C the Forgotten Man.
The original essay, written by Sumner in 1883 (yes, 1883!) can be found here.

A few things I observed: Did LBJ look happy about it? It seemed by their expressions and body language, that neither Carter nor Clinton gave a rat’s patootie. Didn’t see enough of some of the others to comment.
One other detail that should have been portrayed differently; perhaps instead of, or in addition to, the Flag being flown at half-staff, it should be flying upside-down, as well. We really are in a condition of great distress, whether we (want to) realize it or not!

Remember, Carter is on record saying the American Revolution wasn’t neccessary. I suspect that a lot of politicians feel that way.
