CANTOR WON'T
Public Policy Polling might be a Democratic-centric firm, but that doesn't mean that Republicans can't use the data for their own interests. That's why staffers and outside supporters for Reps. Eric Cantor and Kevin McCarthy, who have a new book coming out shortly that criticizes past and current GOP leadership, were over the Labor Day holiday weekend sharing PPP's Ohio poll, which showed that only 28% of John Boehner's home-state voters supported a promotion for him to Speaker of the House should the GOP win a majority later this year.
"Change doesn't have to be limited to tossing out the Democrats," said one Cantor supporter who called to push the poll numbers.
"Six months ago, as the tide really started to shift for Democrats in the House, you sensed that Cantor was happy just to ride along and become majority leader," says a House Republican leadership aide. "But as the months have passed, you've sensed that maybe he thinks he's ready for the big job."
Cantor and McCarthy, who serves as Cantor's deputy whip, have recruited a strong class of conservative and electable candidates for the 2010 cycle, and deserve credit for it, says the leadership aide. That group, which may number as many as 45 or perhaps even more depending on voter sentiment in two months, might serve as the core group to push a Cantor for Speaker campaign.
STIMULUS DESPERATION...

We don't need you to have more power, we needed leadership some time ago, and you didn't step up to the plate, but rather kowtowed to the Democratic leadership and they're, "Big Bills."
This Country doesn't need a, "Big Bill thinker," we need a Conservative leader willing to stand up for Conservative Principles and not be shy about it.
I know, but I wonder if Cantor will be any better. Remember how disappointing Armey was too. And Hastert, the epitome of RINOism
... his time in the sun is never ending, but let’s hope his time in a leadership role is...
But he’s so pretty.
Huh huh. Yeah, plenty of time in the sun and in the tanning bed. I am not thrilled with John but we could do worse. Speaker is clearly where the power center is at, but the Majority Leader and other leadership positions carry some power too. If we end up with John and Speaker and the other positions with more exciting conservative leaders, I am not going to complain too much. Frankly, Boehner's conservative record may be better than Cantor and some others. Cantor has is own issues, and is borderline a DC insider in his interviews.
I agree... Republican success will be short-lived if they elect Boehner as speaker...
The guy says some good things.. at times.. with all the faked sincerity of a used car salesman. NEW and RADICAL is needed... he ain’t it.
I’m not sure from your comment if you are pro-Cantor or just anti-Boehner? I think Cantor’s going to run for president though so I doubt he would want the speakers job. If he doesn’t want it then it’s 100% likely he’s going to run for president.
If the republicans take the house, their is ZERO (0) chance they will pass over Boehner for the Speakers job.
Armey was never speaker.
Cantor would be no better. In fact, he has a whiney voice.
Stupid poll and stupid article.
Re #8:
You are correct.
Boehner has a lifetime ACU rating of 96. We could do a lot worse. (Cantor’s record is similar, however.)
I believe this is why Mike Pence didn’t run for Senate. He has his eyes on the speaker seat and the pubbies would be foolish not to give it to him. Boehner and Cantor are cut from the same cloth. We need a guy not afraid to stand on principle no matter what the press screams.
Who is? I mean, who do you believe has a realistic chance of being elected Speaker who would satisfy conservatives?
Cantor is a W. moderate putting on his conservative hat to win elections , but will cave to the moderates and democrats.
Pence is a self-promoting blowhard.
Though that applies to nearly every politician who seeks leadership positions in Congress, of both parties.
