More than a quarter of a million Christians visit Jerusalem's Garden Tomb every year. The holy site is believed by many to be the place where Jesus rose from the dead.
But now, the sacred ground is in danger of being damaged by a Muslim construction project. Garden Tomb Director Richard Meryon showed CBN News the 15-foot wall being built above the tomb.
"In the last few weeks the cemetery above has built this wooden construction into which they are now ready to pour hundreds of tons of concrete on top of our wall," he explained.
Jerusalem's Islamic waqf is building the wall to enlarge a Muslim cemetery. However, Meryon fears the construction could bring a catastrophe.
"Just beneath (the wall) we have three or four areas where Christians are worshipping every day. So we have the potential here in heavy rain or in snow, or even in one of those earth tremors that Jerusalem is famous for -- you only need one of those events to happen and this new wall could collapse," he said. "It could kill 200 visitors, pilgrims, and tourists in the garden worshipping."
The new wall also violates three local building codes and does not have a city permit. The structure is supposed to be built three feet away from any existing structure and permission is required.
"They have never sought my permission," Meryon said. "We have been in active discussion and I am now negotiating with them. I cannot allow them to build this wall until they prove to me beyond all reasonable doubt that this wall is going to be safe."
A spokesman from the Muslim cemetery told CBN News they do not have a license, but claim the new wall is safe. The mayor's office also said officials will make sure the building is legal so Jerusalem can remain open to tourists.
"We walk through the garden, we're hearing groups of people praising God, worshiping Him in every language from everywhere and we have taken people through the garden literally from every corner of the globe," one tour guide said.
And the concrete wall is not the only construction Meryon is worried about. He said recent digging on top of Golgotha next to the Garden Tomb threatens the hill known as the Place of a Skull. Many believe Jesus was crucified there.
"Golgotha is mentioned in John 19, where Jesus was led outside the city walls... into a place called Golgotha," Meryon said.
"Above Golgotha, in the last few days - bucket by bucket, load by load - a lot of dirt has been imported above the rock and below those graves on the skyline." he added. "I've known for some weeks that they were thinking of building a minaret up there."
Meryon wants to make sure Golgotha and the Garden Tomb remain intact.
"This is a very important Christian holy site," he said. "And we just want to live here in peace and provide this amazing opportunity for Christians all around the world to come here and continue to worship and be exposed to the gospel."

The Muslims are going to just trying to build a “Ground Zer0” Mosque over the garden tomb, common, that is no problem.
/S
At some point Christendom is going to have enough, and they’ll build a couple glass parking lots in mecca and medina.
If it continues they will build over the tomb, just like they are slowly taking over the area of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and the Patriots tombs in Bethelem.
Although not In the ME, here is a link where Islamo-facists are building a mosque on top of a christian cemetary.
I often wondered what exactly pissed off the people so much that they started “The Crusades”
It’s getting pretty obvious now
The Muslims wonder why for centuries they were held down. This is exactly why, they can’t live in peace with others.
I say nuke the whole goddamn bunch of them. Starting with the Hajj...
While I believe there are some pretty good reasons to doubt the legitimacy of this “holy site”, that is not the point here. The point is - Muslims don’t care about anyone or anything.
You even hint about burying or otherwise doing ANYTHING to a Muslim “holy place” (or un-holy as I call them), they will go terrorist on you.
But Muslims feel they can just plow through every other faith’s holy sites with impunity. IN fact, I firmly believe that is part of their core beliefs. IT is part of the “muslim conquest” of the world. To desecrate every other religion’s holy sites”.
Just think about how the Muslims built their dome of the jackass....errr... Rock right on the Temple Mount, knowing full-well that the Jews consider the whole site to be holy. So the Muzzies invent a story to make it their own holy site and build a temple to their Satanic false god... It is a form of victory trophy - kind of like how some wild animals take a wiz on dead opponents or even their prey when they kill something... marking their spoils.
And this is no different than the Trade Center location - this “Mosque/community center” is nothing more than an unabashed symbol of Islamic power over the “infidels”. With all the real estate, why THAT location? Again - Islamic march to world domination - that is their goal. And they build monuments to every victory they win. They won on 9-11, because they got one of their own elected to POTUS just 8 years after they carried out that attack on the US.
Yeah.... sadly, following Armageddon. We won’t see it happen in this lifetime.
And I don’t think Parking Garages will be all that important in the next lifetime either...
It doesn’t matter if they destroy the tomb. Christ isn’t there and hasn’t been for 2000 years. They cannot destroy my living God. However, it may be unpleasant when they meet Him.
This guy shows up at the pearly gates with a suitcase.
St. Peter verifies his name is in the Book, and starts to let him in, then says, “No, no, just you, not the suitcase.”
The guy says, “No, the suitcase comes with me.”
St. Pete says, “You can’t take it with you, everyboby knows that!”
The guy says, “I can, I’ve got special dispensation, check the Book again.”
St. Peter looks again, and sure enough, it has his name, and one suitcase.
St. Peter turns to the guy and says, “That’s amazing! I’ve been doing this job for, well forever, and I’ve never seen such a thing!, Come on in.”
Then he hesitates again. “Ummm, do you mind if I see what’s in the suitcase?”
The guy says no problem, and pops it open. It’s filled with gold bars.
St. Peter looks and looks. Finally says “You must have gone through quite a lot to get permission to do this.”
The guy says, “You have NO idea...” and starts to go into details.
St. Peter interupts “You did all that to get permission to bring in PAVING STONES?!?!”
This is just part of the continuing ‘Muslim outreach’ program.
It does matter - not because the area itself is something to be worshipped; but, because it is a reminder to Satan and his followers that they lost. How dare these vermin.
When we were in Jerusalem, Nazereth, and Capharnum, I was struck by the number of times we were told what they could specifically identify and what they couldn't I never felt anyone was trying to get over on me as a tourist. If the sites are not precise, the areas are so small that you have to be there within a few yeards or so.
LOL
Cute one !!
= D
Psalm 125:1 They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.
Isaiah 10:12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.
Isaiah 24:23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.
Christ is not in that tomb any longer and will return to rule and reign in His land. Pray for the muslim world because they have been deceived by the evil one.
Mohammedans can't even live in peace with other Mohammedans.
True, Muslims wiped out 25,000 of the Assasins followers.
Makes one wonder WHY they seem unwilling to go after the Islamofascists?
