The United States government in no way condones such acts of disrespect against the religion of Islam, and is deeply concerned about deliberate attempts to offend members of religious or ethnic groups.
The embassy wants to emphasize that we strongly condemn the offensive messages, which are contrary to U.S. government policy and deeply offensive to Muslims especially during the month of Ramadan.
President Obama made clear in Cairo in his speech on June 4, 2009 that he considers it part of his responsibility as President to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they occur. And during his recent Iftar speech at the White House he said: Let me be clear: as a citizen, and as President, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country.
Americans from all religious and ethnic backgrounds reject the offensive initiative by this small group in Florida. A great number of American voices are protesting the hurtful statements made by this organization. Numerous interfaith and religious groups in America are actively working to counter this kind of ignorance and misinformation that is offensive to so many people in the U.S. and around the world.
Just a few days ago, President Obamas Special Envoy to the OIC, Rashad Hussain visited Afghanistan, reaching out to political leaders, religious leaders, students and all citizens of Afghanistan, communicating the important message of friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding between the U.S. and Muslim communities all around the world.
>>It is a pointless, stupid stunt.<<
Of course it is. We should all sit down and have a dialogue. Show them what nice people we really are. Then they will be nice to us. I’m sure of it.

I wouldn’t wipe my dog’s a** with a koran, but if I happen to find one lying in the sewer (because I’d certainly never waste money on one) I’ll be sure to pi** on it and then burn it, kindling the fire with bacon grease.
Is that available as a poster?
No I don't and don't call me Shirley.
“Tell that to the guys in Afghanistan, fighting not just our enemies, but the propaganda war, that uses idiocy like this to rally them to their cause. I’m sure this little infantile tantrum will make the new gold star mothers feel better...”
First of all a disclaimer. Personally, I don’t see the sense of burning Koran’s. All it serves to do is provoke. I would not do such a thing because it isn’t wise.
Now....on the flip side. What kind of government are we helping to establish in Afghanistan that a group of persons burning a Koran in the U.S. is cause for riots and burning the preacher in effigy? That is violent. It certaining isn’t respectful of freedom of religion.
It has been my opinion that the WORST mistake made when we invaded and initially subdueded Afghanistan and Iraq that in our attempt ot set up a democracy we did not set up a BEDROCK of our own. Namely FULL freedom of religion. We should have, from the outset, made it clear to the emerging governments that they would only be allowed to form and to have our backing if they absolutely (not just lip service) guaranteed the people living in their country to worship (or not) and believe (or not) as their consciences dictats without fear of violence against them. Plus, the government should, by force of law, enforce this. In these “liberated” countries a person should be able to chose to be “Muslim”, “Jewish”, “Christian,” “Atheist”, etc. We should NEVER have allowed them to set up a state religion of Islam.
A free state is best typified by unfettered belief or lack thereof in its citizenry. I am not allowed to kill you because you are Christian, Jew, or Islamic. The only rule is that all can be believe (or not) and practice their beliefs (or none) PEACEABLE.
So, although I AM concerned about the safety of the military on the ground in Afghanistan....what good is their being there if they have to constantly worry about offending religious beliefs of the locals....even when it isn’t them doing it. My advice to the Afghans is simple...learn to live with it, or face dying if you can’t.
These Muslims must learn that we do not FEAR them as that is exactly how it will be interpreted should we ever back down.
They think we are weak and 9/11 is a example of that.
But burning bibles and American flags goes unpunished,Screw them.
Make a huge bonfire of that hate handbook! These subhuman savages must learn they are dirt.
OK. What exactly is 'it'.
correction: ismal = blood soaked morons
FUBO and FUMO...piss be upon them...
how often do these asshats criticize the burning of our flag ??? whether its here or any muzzy sh!thole across the globe...
better get yer PAC fired up...itll take some coin, but you got my vote...
the koran is just ink on paper. Im surprised the islamics admit they worship ink on paper and have an inky paper mache god named ink allah
Besides, free speech allows me to burn what I want on my own time at my own place.
The US government pays for a religious leader’s trip on religious themes to groups of other religious, and now they insert themselves into a religious difference between two religions.
Is it a Christian minister they’re paying to visit the other Christian ministers and argue Christian positions?
Would they even dream of it?
Would they even dream of protesting the burning of bibles in other countries?
Bunch of hypocrites. White-wash supulchres... Inside there’s only dead men’s bones.
Guess the Dove Church didn't get the message.
Tell that to the guys in Afghanistan, fighting not just our enemies, but the propaganda war, that uses idiocy like this to rally them to their cause.
I'm sure this little infantile tantrum will make the new gold star mothers feel better...
Are you for real?
A small set of Korans are burned half a planet away by a small group of people no one has heard of, and you think that subsistence cave dwellers are going to view all of this on their 60" plasma TVs, turn to each other, cancel the picnic and peace rally with the coalition troops and order up from the Iranians bombs to kill Americans.
Do you really think that those who wage violent jihad against the West are sitting around on the collective butts wringing their hands looking for ANY reason to attack, see this event and then and only then spring into action?
This is clearly a case of the proverbial tree falling in the forest. Unless the Koran burners leased out satellite time and arranged for relaying this program as an Infomercial on Arabic satellite and then compelled people to wake up in the middle of their night to watch it. Oh, and provide the millions in Afghanistan with TVs, satellite equipment, electricty and Dari/Pashtu translations of the narrative of the event, I got to wonder how word of this is supposed to get over there.
From all appearances, the ones standing in the forest was our damned traitorous government, who not only wanted the enemy to know, but practically moved heaven and earth to do it.
Thanks bud, but the only way I'm going to inhabit a political office is as part of some sort of draft, or community service sentence, or hostage situation.
My first and last official act would be to do away with whatever office I was occupying.
And to declare war on everyone who strives for office.
That is very true. The difference is you won't see these Christians roiting or killing people because of it.
“The difference is you won’t see these Christians roiting or killing people because of it.”
And hopefully, you won’t see many of them burning Korans, either.
Oh but you will. And that is why this so called religion should not be tolerated. It should be mocked and insulted every chance one gets. Ridicule is our best weapon and muzzies can not stand to be ridiculed.
