A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds Castle picking up 49% of the vote, while Democrat Chris Coons gets 37% support. Five percent (5%) prefer some other candidate, and nine percent (9%) are undecided.
Christine ODonnell, who is challenging Castle for the GOP Senate nomination in a September 14 primary, now runs 10 points behind Coons. The Democrat gets 46% of the vote to ODonnells 36%. Ten percent (10%) favor another candidate, and eight percent (8%) are undecided. Last month, ODonnell was running virtually even with Coons, 41% to 39%.
If Castle is the nominee, the GOP makes serious inroads into the Democratic vote. Castle gets 81% of the Republican vote, while Coons carries just 56% of Democrats. But if O'Donnell is in the race, her GOP support is 66%, and 75% of Democrats support Coons. Voters not affiliated with either major party break close to even no matter which Republican is in the race.
Fifty-four percent (54%) of all voters in Delaware regard Castle as a conservative, while 61% feel this way about ODonnell. Fifty-seven percent (57%) consider Coons a liberal.
Sixty-nine percent (69%) describe Castles political views as mainstream, and only 16% think they are extreme.
Coons is viewed as in the mainstream by 46% and extreme by 23%.

9/1/10 Christine ODonnell's bid gives Democrats new life
Maybe the BIDENS are the smartest people in Delaware.....yuk.
So way to go National Rinos committee.
What are you morons going to do now that your smear job has worked so well if O'Donnel wins the nomination?
So NRC, Are you lying to us now? Or were you lying to us in 2008 when O'Donnel was the GOP endorsed candidate and you all were telling us how great she was?
So either way, Democrats win.
Violation of principle should never be the choice of a person whose goal is to conserve (preserve) the principles and ideas of liberty, as outlined in our Declaration of Independence and structured into our limited government, by way of the U. S. Constitution.
No matter who suggests such a "solution," it is a false, false solution. If Castle's voting record is an indicator of future action (as was Obama's prior to 2008), then any voter to thinks "conservative" should not sacrifice principle for some perceived political advantage.
That's very telling. I bet if you polled that question in MA, substituting "Scott Brown" for "Castle", you'd see a very similar result. In Delaware, Mike Castle is a conservative.
Everything is relative.
Castle is a scumbag and would join Kirk, the Maine sisters, and Pansy Graham in cutting our throats.
>>> So NRC, Are you lying to us now? Or were you lying to us in 2008 when O’Donnel was the GOP endorsed candidate and you all were telling us how great she was?
If you really must put it in those terms, I’d say they were lying in 2008. No Republican was going to beat Joe Biden for his senate seat. He was too well entrenched. A sacrificial lamb was offered.
This time with Joe busy making himself look foolish on a much broader stage, the seat can be won. But not by wishful thinking. As the polls attest.
Castle would be another Arlen Specter. That’s almost worse than a Democrat.
These poll numbers are the temporary product of name recognition only. Everyone in DE knows Mike Castle. O’Donnell’s numbers will rise in a general election, and rise to defeat the Democrat.
Purge Castle. Send him to the Arlen Specter wing of the ‘rat party.
>>> This is an attempted manipulation of voters to entice them to violate principle in favor of some projected outcome which cannot be known until post-election results are in.
Get a grip. This is a Rasmussen poll. They are straight shooters, and as we speak are being celebrated just a few posts down for their report how far behind the dems are nationally. They report the good and they report the bad. And most generally they are pretty much on the nose.
Rather then looking to polls to know what to think try looking at the records of the respective candidates.
Castle is a Democrat in everything but name. Rather then spend so much time and effort just so he can Jefford the party in Jan 2011, try getting behind a real Republican candidate
This is such nonsense. They always say “only a moderate republican can win.” Then the moderate loses to the democrat.
The reality is that conservatives slaughter democrats in elections and moderates always have close elections (i.e. stealable)
Looks like it’s time to send another contribution to O’Donnell (and I’m not even from Delaware).
From your OWN article here

Well first, Biden isn’t running, Beau or Joe, so how O’Donnell saves anyone named Biden is beyond me. Secondly, your poll was taken while her name recognition was very low. Thirdly, Politico has descended into the hysterical rantings of the desperate political class.
The way to take control of the Senate is to nominate "moderates" like Jim Jeffords, Lincoln Chafee and Arlen Spectre. They've never screwed us before!
Marylanders have a tough choice.
They can get (almost) half of a Republican with ease, or get a whole one with a hard fight.
Should be a new poll along shortly.
The PEOPLES' POLL (TM) says NO RINOS. NO CASTLE. NO ROMNEY.
Get with the program.
Please. NO RINOs. So go vote for Christine O'Donnell.
Unlike me and my cronies, she is obviously not guilty.
