For nine years after the attacks of Sept. 11, many American Muslims made concerted efforts to build relationships with non-Muslims, to make it clear they abhor terrorism, to educate people about Islam and to participate in interfaith service projects. They took satisfaction in the observations by many scholars that Muslims in America were more successful and assimilated than Muslims in Europe.
Now, many of those same Muslims say that all of those years of work are being rapidly undone by the fierce opposition to a Muslim cultural center near ground zero that has unleashed a torrent of anti-Muslim sentiments and a spate of vandalism. The knifing of a Muslim cab driver in New York City has also alarmed many American Muslims.

BTTT!
Ask me that the day Christians have a church and belong in Saudi Arabia.
If you want to belong, you are living in the wrong culture.
Nope! As long as WE THE PEOPLE follow the Founding documents of this country, people that follow islam can not be allowed to become citizens because their religion is also a political system which is incompatible with the Constitution. They could not honestly take the oath to be a citizen.
The “religion” should be classified like Scientology was in Germany. It makes no sense to allow muslims to immigrate here unless we are trying to destroy our system of government.
Any officials that allow muslim immigration should be classified as subversives or traitors to our country.
Muslims need to go back to mecca or the other muslim countries. All non-muslim nations should ban them if they do not want sharia law.
Excuse me? WHAT work?
As long as you consider women to be chattel to be used or abused at whim, NO.
And there's a whole litany of grievances including stolen lands, desecrated holy sites, ongoing slavery in mohammedan occupied territories that you will have to address before you should dare to get your collective noses out of joint.
Before you demand to be accepted on your merits, you should consider the reality that there are damned few to stand on at the moment.
Sadly that is not the true representation. One look at a photograph of Imam Rauf, sends a chill down my spine. For other pictures of Imams show men with hard, taut faces. The eyes cold and penetrating. Their icy proclamation of the "laws you made" in demanding something, can only be construed as a grinding down of the normal niceties of civilized discourse.
No the NYT are not the only ones in this business. Old CBC of Canada runs "Little Mosque on the Prairie" and I think another season looms. The Imam, a young edition of the late Rudolph Valentino, described as "metro sexual". He jokes and laughs. Yes, this is the Canadian mock up of an Imam.
Back we go to the hard staring faces of the real men in Canada. These men and wicked plots by afluent young men, to carry out terrorist acts coupled with the delays at airports are taking a toll. We non-muslims are only human after all.
I echo the words:... you can stop wondering.
***********************************************
Let me add NO.
A couple have already been sworn into office & laid their hand on the Koran to take their oath, instead of the Bible.
There is no such thing as a muslim-American.
Two words that are incompatible.
Just as there is no such thing as a Christian-American.
It really is time to go after the whore writers, and make it personal
*********************************************************
And there is no such thing as an African-American, just like there is no such thing as a European-American...enough with the hyphenations already! You are either an AMERICAN or something else, but you cannot be both.
It could be that many muslims including the ‘moderates’ do not know all that the Koran is about , very much like people of other faiths who do not know of the teachings and obligations of their faith. However history has given a good indication of muslim intentions for the world.
Short answer: NO.
When I hear the word Muslim, I think “terrorist”.
So chuck your koran, and pledge allegiance to the Flag and the Constitution - and you are welcome to stay.
Better yet - find Christ. Bend your knee to HIM and be saved.
When satanallah welcomes you to hell, yes.
“...Will we ever belong?”
NO! GET THE HELL OUT!
No. And may I kindly add since you Muzzies don't belong here:
“Pick one as the Koran and Constitution are virtually mutually exclusive...”
Very true. Islam teaches that the Koran is the EXACT word of Allah. They believe (logically) that man cannot create any law above God’s law as stated in the Koran. Therefore, true moslems cannot accept any civil authority above the Koran. Consent of the governed cannot supercede God’s law.
I seriously doubt it. And that's a shame. But as long as you guyz adhere to a bunch of beliefs that run counter to American morals and mores you won't. I won't belabor the point. Y'all know the beliefs I'm talking about.
No, now get your terrorist enabling asses the hell out of our country before we wrap you in pig skin and drop you off over mecca.
Filthy bastards, they attack us, kill more than 3,000 people on our soil on 9-11 and then have the audacity to ask "will we ever belong?"
Not just no, but HELL F**KING NO!
“Now, many of those same Muslims say that all of those years of work are being rapidly undone by the fierce opposition to a Muslim cultural center near ground zero that has unleashed a torrent of anti-Muslim sentiments and a spate of vandalism.”
So why aren’t they more vocal in advising against the Mosque? Why have they not denounced all of the Wahhabi Mosques across America whose Imams are blatantly in support of terrorist Jihadists?
As far as vandalism is concerned I don’t put it past some Muslims committing vandalism themselves. I am really not overly concerned about how these Muslims who have allegedly worked so hard to become a part of our society feel. Until they publicly and in great numbers condemn Jihadists I don’t trust them.
