Washington (AP) - Delaware Republicans call Senate hopeful Christine O'Donnell a liar who "could not be elected dog catcher" in a fierce attack that underscores GOP fears of the tea party-backed candidate knocking off top recruit Rep. Mike Castle and winning the nomination.
Stunned by tea partier Joe Miller's upset of Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Republicans are taking no chances in Delaware, which holds its primary Sept. 14. The party sees Castle, the state's lone congressman since 1993, as the best candidate for the seat long held by Vice President Joe Biden.
Republicans circulated audio of a testy, 22-minute interview that O'Donnell had with radio station WGMD on Thursday. Party officials also have said she inflated her resume and made flat-out untrue statements while being dogged by questions about tax liens and foreclosures. Castle says she has misrepresented his record.
"She's not a viable candidate for any office in the state of Delaware," state Republicann Party Chairman Tom Ross, who is backing Castle, said in a telephone interview. "She could not be elected dog catcher."
Castle's campaign began running radio ads on Thursday and prepared negative television ads against O'Donnell. The radio ads cite a News Journal of Wilmington, Del., report on O'Donnell's finances and declares her "a financial nightmare."

Castle voted for Cap & Trade. Who is nuts? Or is he simply a Traitor?
A RINO is someone who is not nor ever was a Republican but who is usually solicited by Republicans to run under their label for the purpose of winning an election ~ and thereby obtaining control of the legislative agenda.
The NE Republicans ~ typified by Richard Milhouse Nixon, Nelson Rockefeller, George Pataki, etc. were always affiliated with Regular Republicans, and Souvrn' Republicans in the Republican caucus.
Getting rid of real RINOs is of value when we have a Republican who can win. Getting rid of NE Republicans simply PO's the NE Republicans who usually vote for them ~ not that it drives them into the arms of the Democrats, but they don't show up to vote.
We've seen this with Conservatives when the NE Republicans, and the Countryclubbers abuse them ~ they just don't vote, and we all lose.
It's not likely a Souvrn' or Regular Republican can be found to run for office in Delaware ~ and win ~ but they have a NE Republican who has demonstrated that he can win statewide elections (several times).
Frankly, I don't support him but Delaware has a demonstrably erratic, bizarre even, electoral track record. They seem not be concerned with the quality of their Senators ~ any "hack" will do as far as they're concerned.
O'Donnell can probably win in Delaware this year, and so can the NE Republican she's running against. If I were a resident and running for Senate, I think I might win ~ THIS YEAR ~ but maybe not some other year.
The electorate is very angry.
The Republican party bosses in Delaware are in error if they imagine that putting either one of these people in the Senate seat will yield any greater advantages to the state ~ neither one will have Senate seniority.
Regardless, this race is my my business. If Delaware Republicans nominate an unethical nutball who is going to get killed in November, that affects me. If Delaware elects someone who at least votes the right way some of the time versus someone who votes the right way none of the time, that affects me. Delaware's business IS my business, and saganite's too.
I don’t know enough about Castle or O’Donnell to have a direct opinion on either. However I would note Delaware overall is not a particularly conservative state. Just because somebody is endorsed by some Tea Party organization doesn’t mean they are electable.
I doubt the lesson of the win in Alaska is applicable in suburban yuppie/old money Delaware. The risk is whether instead the lesson of Nevada is applicable, where unpopular Harry Reid’s best chance of survival is his Tea party endorsed opponent. Maybe the people in Delaware are better positioned to decide that without name calling by us.
Btw, this business of calling everybody a RINO has really been run into the ground. Besides since in fact you are calling for a Third Party, doesn’t this make you the actual Republican in Name Only ?
We all have a dog in every U. S. Senate fight. This is the most nationalized election season in my memory.
(But then, I'm old and my memory ain't what it used to be.)

Alright, it's time to truly have it out! Any rinos with power are useless. Why don't you people who support rinos understand this after you have witnessed their destruction just like the rest of us for years? The Maine Twins do the republican party absolutely no good if they vote with the dems destructive agenda.
It's so nonsensical to think electing rinos has "Value" when all it does is make it harder for the party to advance it's conservative nature. Here's a novel idea get rid of these prix and start electing people who are conservative...The time is NOW, no more rinos!!

Because of bills like the Cap & Trade Bill, this is a national fight not a state issue. I have never been to Deleware and suspect I never will, but we are currently in a war to regain control of the Republican Party and with it the nation.
It is our duty to oust the “enemies of we the people”. We have no choice, it must be done for the nation to survive as a free people. I do not care what Republican POL is damaged because of this. They either get on the train with us, or they will get run over.
Maybe you know some other way to do it, but Delaware is Delaware and they have two issues ~ Dupont and Credit Card operations.
Address those issues a way they like and they'll vote for you.

If it was an election for a DE STATE senator I’d agree with you. But since this person’s actions will affect the NATION then everyone has a dog in this fight. Problem is we can only root for our favorite not bet on it.

Control of the House and the Senate are the most important thing for the future of this nation and Republicans have to have seats in liberal states. That means moderate candidates.
The alternative is leaving control in the Dems hands and the continued destruction of our way of life. In case you didn't notice, every RINO defeated in 2006 and 2008 was replaced by a Democrat.
The basic rule of party politics is that the majority party organizes the legislative body and sets the legislative agenda.
If you aren't in the majority all you get to do is vote.
Let me organize this like one of those Mazlo Needs charts:
1. Where we can elect a Conservative we must do so.
2. Where we can't, we may have to go with a Republican.
3. Where we have difficulty on even that score, we probably should run a RINO.
4. Where that can't happen, we need to use open primary laws to vote in Democrat primaries for the more conservative candidate.
I don't see where there's any room whatsoever for a "moderate" in that mix.

A “winning candidate” is one who wins. It has not been demonstrably the case in recent years that a purely “moderate candidate” can be elected anywhere!
