Scientists (at least some) seem to be quite double-minded. On the one hand, they talk about extinctions being a part of the evolutionary process. Then they carry on and moan about extinctions.

Which is it guys? Are extinctions a normal part of evolution or aren't they?

The plain and simple fact is that 99% of all species have gone extinct over the history of earth.
