White House considering emergency economic stimuli
By: Glenn Thrush September 2, 2010 07:04 PM EDT
The Obama administration is mulling a raft of emergency fixes to stimulate the economy before the midterms, including an extension of the research and development tax credit and new infrastructure spending, according to several people familiar with the situation.
Administration officials have been huddling almost continuously during the past week, brainstorming for ideas that would boost employment without hiking the massive federal deficit with Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner rushing to the West Wing for further consultations late Thursday.
The White House press office on Thursday refused to say how much a financial package might be, other than to say it wont be a second stimulus. But the administration will have a tough time selling nearly any package to terrified, Obama-phobic Hill Democrats who increasingly blame the president and his ambitious, expensive legislative agenda for their dismal prospects this November.
The meetings, which had Obama huddling with his economic advisers twice in the last seven days, have yielded no specific proposals. But hes given the team a priority: find ways to pay for as many of the ideas, mostly tax breaks, as possible without a deficit increase, an administration official told POLITICO.
The R-and-D tax cut, which Congressional Democrats have already considered would, for example, be paid for by closing overseas corporate loopholes.

Too many unknown booby traps in the 6000+ pages no dem congress critter bothered to read, in the stimulus, obamacare, bank bill.
All the King’s men and all the King’s horses couldn’t put the economy back together again.
Woohoo!!!!!
Here comes our $50,000 checks!!!!
Buying votes, 0bama style!
Sounds like a plan............SHEESH!
Obama is damned and determined to kill off the Democrat Party!
Go for it Bambi.
LOLROTF...I needed that laugh!
Oh....
R&D incentives and infrastructure spending. If the law was passed tomorrow, any action wouldn’t get off the drawing board before the elections.
I know this is crazy, but seriously.... Back before they did TARP, Porkulis I, bailouts, and now the upcoming Porkulis II; They would have been better off just mailing every tax payer a $100,000 check. People up to their eyeballs in debt could have used it to pay down their debts and deleverage, allowing them to pay their over priced mortgages. It would have actually been MORE stimulative to the economy, and it WOULD HAVE BEEN LESS EXPENSIVE.....
America just WON’T die fast enough! Hurry, Obama!!
Short of mailing EVERY American a check for $50,000, I think you are correct!
So, how much money does he propose to funnel through that NASA program to the 57 Islamic nations, anyway? Thanks Sub-Driver.
I’d be up for some cash from Bammy’s stash. Likely I’d just find it on my tab later.
This picture begs to be photoshopped with Zeros face.
These clueless, feckless morons are determined to kill the future of our children and grandchildren. Fools! Tools! I hope our children are strong and can hunt down these fools so as to bring them to justice..
Didn’t a Bush do that?
emergency economic stimuli = abolish capital gains tax, abolish corporate and small bsiness tax, reduce the size of federal government.
But we KNOW , that ain’t happening , so ......
FAIL!!!!!
Infrastructure spending....I thought the $800 billions was going to all those "shovel ready" jobs...
What they going to spend it on to boost the economy in 2 months...?
desperation panic moves...like arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.
Drive a stake through the heart of the RATs, Obama. Go for it, indeed!
We are spending more on our domestic programs that what the next ten largest countries spend on their military combined in one year.
"Domestic programs", my ass. My wife and I can't even get an SBA loan to resurrect our (once very successful) small business, so that we can provide jobs to others, while delivering services that American taxpayers need and want.
Billions upon billions of dollars to giant corporate pirates and corrupt unions has done nothing to stimulate our economy. Little guys like me who are the backbone of this economy are taxed and regulated to death, then told to suck it, when we need a hand from our government.
The next time Americans are given a choice between a clueless, narcissistic, do-nothing community organizer or a Governor who successfully managed a large government budget, perhaps they’ll make a different decision.
Hope and Change does not a good executive make.
