Childs Ordeal Shows Risks of Psychosis Drugs for Young
OPELOUSAS, La. At 18 months, Kyle Warren started taking a daily antipsychotic drug on the orders of a pediatrician trying to quell the boys severe temper tantrums.
Thus began a troubled toddlers journey from one doctor to another, from one diagnosis to another, involving even more drugs. Autism, bipolar disorder, hyperactivity, insomnia, oppositional defiant disorder. The boys daily pill regimen multiplied: the antipsychotic Risperdal, the antidepressant Prozac, two sleeping medicines and one for attention-deficit disorder. All by the time he was 3.
He was sedated, drooling and overweight from the side effects of the antipsychotic medicine. Although his mother, Brandy Warren, had been at her wits end when she resorted to the drug treatment, she began to worry about Kyles altered personality. All I had was a medicated little boy, Ms. Warren said. I didnt have my son. Its like, youd look into his eyes and you would just see just blankness.
Today, 6-year-old Kyle is in his fourth week of first grade, scoring high marks on his first tests. He is rambunctious and much thinner. Weaned off the drugs through a program affiliated with Tulane University that is aimed at helping low-income families whose children have mental health problems, Kyle now laughs easily and teases his family.

Where is his father to save him from his helpless mother?
These doctors are nuts, not the kids.
Sounds more like she was a young welfare mother with no family support. With the government paying for his medical care, that’s the first place she went instead of disciplining appropriately. The lack of parenting skills is obvious but I wonder if perhaps some of her activities while she was pregnant might have caused him some lifetime problems.
This is such a common occurrence.
All that needs to be said. Along with Kyle not being able to deal with the family turmoil, mom probably wasn't as patient and able to deal with her son acting out. So very sad on all parts.
Bingo.
I’m not gonna read the article. But I bet you a dollar there’s no daddy at home.
Typical.
A good spanking could have been a miraculous drug too!
But hey, let’s not do what works.
Temper tantrums are nothing new but you don’t load them up with adult drugs, for crying out loud. What kid of parents are these? Idiots?
All I had was a medicated little boy, Ms. Warren said.
MISS Warren is as clueless as her kidS.
YOU ARE RIGHT!
All I had was a medicated little boy, Ms. Warren said.
Yes, MISS Warren is the mother of the brood.
Its information like this that makes me worry that as these boys grow up, they will welcome Shariah Law with open arms. All because their mothers deserve to be punished.
There could have been other triggers. I noticed one of my boys was more likely to have tantrums when he had too many carbs and not enough protein. Behavior issues can be due to someone being a brat. Or, it could be something dietary that keeps triggering such behavior. Nothing which requires giving such medical cocktails to a baby.
Agreed.
Much as I dismiss Michael Savage, this is one of his particular rant targets. And he's completely correct.
Since the medical profession has purposefully shifted from a human fix-it-all garage to the oil-change-only approach of drugs, where every case of bad brakes or a clogged air filter gets an oil change. And the human machines are breaking down at an ever-increasing rate.
I agree with you about the food issues. My son had hyperactivity and tantrums from age 2 on. He was showing signs of classic autism by age nine. A pediatric neurologist did over 30 pages of lab work and finally figured out that he was a Celiac. Within two weeks on a gluten-free diet, I had a new son.
My daughter had a brief period of behavior issues at age two. Turned out that she was suffering from a chronic ear infection. The kid was in pain a partially deaf. Seems that agonizing, unrelenting pain and an inability to communicate can be really frustrating.
And that’s the thing that disturbs me the most about these stories. Drs and parents diagnose a “behavior problem” and stop looking for anything else. Food allergies, chronic illnesses, vitamin or mineral deficiencies, etc. Sick kids act out and it’s sometimes really difficult to see that they are suffering. Kids are tougher than we know and sometimes can’t identify a gradually growing problem. So they won’t pull at their ears or get a fever or show other classic signs of illness.
I’m so glad that I kept digging for my boy and didn’t stop with the ADHD/OD/autism diagnosis.
Psychiatrists have decided that little boys acting up is crazy and they should be treated with drugs, but men who feel they’re women are normal and they should be shot full of hormones and mutilated.
Our food is getting less and less like real food. GMO potatoes have genes from bacteria spliced in. The soil in which food is grown does not have all the nutrients that humans need, so people get mineral deficiencies, and on and on and on.
“Psychiatrists have decided that little boys acting up is crazy and they should be treated with drugs, but men who feel theyre women are normal and they should be shot full of hormones and mutilated.”
Yes, it is backwards.
I don’t know of a NORMAL little boy that isn’t more squirmy and active. Yes, even a carrot stick will become a ... dare I say it ??? A WEAPON! They are wired differently and it is NORMAL for them to be like this.
It is WRONG to try and change this.
All of your reasons are valid.
What appals me is how this “mother” wants PILLS to solve her problem. She is looking for a PILL to control her child and not delve into the REAL reasons that may be contributing to this. Why wasn’t the child taken away from her? Clearly she is an UNFIT “mother”.
