Intel CEO: Things Need to Change in the U.S.

Intel's Paul Otellini predicts that the "next big thing" won't happen in the States unless government policies change.

ZoomMonday night Intel CEO Paul Otellini warned government officials that the U.S. will face a huge tech decline if government policies are not altered. In fact, the "next big thing" won't be invented here in the States, and jobs will be created outside our borders.

The warning was part of his observations about the Obama administration and the nation's economy during dinner at the Technology Policy Institute's Aspen Forum. He took aim at the U.S. legal environment, claiming that its become so hostile to business that there could be "an inevitable erosion and shift of wealth, much like we're seeing today in Europe--this is the bitter truth."

He went on to criticize the administration's Keynesian policy of economic stimulus and its inability to understand the concept of creating new jobs. "They're in a 'Do' loop right now trying to figure out what the answer is," Otellini told the audience........

Imagine you are a manufacturer in California or NY. You face OSHA, FDA, EPA, HHS and all the massively staffed, heavy-handed CA/NY State equivalents. You have pretty much forced unionization of your plants, unionized Gov’t employees, high property taxes, extortionary school taxes, and high taxes on employment. You will soon be taxed to pay for Obamacare, even if you have never offered health-care to your employees. You face politically-connected tort lawyers who will take millions from you for the slightest mistake, and therefore, you pay astronomical insurance rates as well.

Is ANYONE surprised when a company decides not to manufacture in the United States, but rather set up plants overseas, and then also use those plants to import into the USA?

We need to jettison a LOT of government-imposed distortions of the economy — unions, minimum wages, liberty-sapping “health and safety” regulations, unemployment insurance (you pay people to be unemployed and guess what? More of them become unemployed!), and 100% of “entitlements” like Social Security and Medicare. Welfare, of course, has to go too, especially Medicaid.

Places like Hong Kong are unburdened by stuff like that. And they will eat our lunch if we maintain those kinds of burdens.

As a chip-maker beginning in the mid-60's, my engineers developed a process in the late 80's that required the daily use of about one gallon of (regular store bought) Clorox bleach....about $1.00 at the time.

I was truly amazed to find out that the EPA required us to dispose of the empty bottle to their specifications...that cost us $16.00 each (empty) bottle. But, the same bottle at home was just thrown in the 'regular' trash.

Obama is losing in a match-up against a generic Republican challenger by 37 percent to 34 percent among voters in the 18-34 age group, according to a stunning Quinnipiac University poll.

In March, voters in this group approved of Obama by 54 percent to 37 percent.

“The youngest age group may be the most impatient and the most easily disillusioned among all age groups,” said Molly Andolina, a youth-vote expert and DePaul University political-science professor.
