Sen. Murkowski's defeat marks major tea party win

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Backed by the Tea Party Express and Sarah Palin, a little-known conservative lawyer from Alaska became the latest newcomer to the national political stage to take down an incumbent in 2010.

In arguably the biggest political upset of the year, Joe Miller claimed the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate when incumbent GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski conceded Tuesday evening. Murkowski gave up after failing to gain much ground in an count of outstanding absentee ballots.

Miller will be the favorite in November in strongly Republican Alaska against Democrat Scott McAdams, the mayor of Sitka.

But Senate Democrats moved quickly to see whether Miller's victory could give them an opening in an otherwise difficult campaign season, conducting a poll to gauge the potential competitiveness of the race. Even before Murkowski conceded, Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey, chairman of the Democrats' campaign committee, said in an interview his organization might come into the state behind McAdams.

...The stunning result was a huge validation of the political power of Palin as the former Alaska governor has been playing kingmaker in midterm elections ahead of a potential 2012 White House run.

More importantly, it marks a major defeat for the RINOS and their RAT allies.

I have a lot more respect and admiration for Murkowski now that she has conceded.

It was a gracious gesture and I hope Miller will be just as gracious in accepting it.

I don’t think the Tea Party Express spokesperson did the cause any favor by blasting Murkowski after she conceeded. That could goad her into running as an independent out of spite. Not good. Happy Miller won.

You have to love the Dems and the media framing as “extreme” — a West Point alum and decorated Gulf War vet, who also has a Yale Law degree.

Meanwhile we have a guy who sat in Rev Wright’s church for 20 years, with a secret background. An he’s somehow mainstream.

This world is f’d up.

Amen! When are they going to learn; it’s not about the parties, it’s about the American people! I’ve voted Republican in every election ince 1972, but now I’m an independent conservative, and IN THE MAJORITY!!

Ping-a-ling !

Regardless if she's the nominee or not, you can't deny she is good for Conservatism and The TEA Party movement.

Yes, I know she backed Juan MeCain and I didn't like that one bit.

You know the MSM hated to write this article. To the left, writing articles like this is worse than visiting the dentist.

Palin did lots of good things. Including endorsing Didier in my state.

Washington Times tried to down play Palin’s role in the election.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2581124/posts

In the article “only” 35% of republicans said that Palin’s endorsement was important or very important in their voting decision. And they said this was not significant. In a 1,300 vote difference election, Palin’s endorsement was pivotal.

Will we still deem it a success if the Dim wins in November? I have not seen a chick hatch yet.

Palin’s two primary litmus tests are abortion and corruption.

Abortion: She endorsed Carly Fiorina when pro-abortion Tom Campbell was leading in California polling and Kelly Ayotte when Bill Binnie was closing fast in New Hampshire. It's probably a secondary factor in Alaska, but I also think Sarah just wanted to kick Lisa's butt.

Corruption is probably the reason she didn't endorse Nathan Deal. I saw a website that accused Deal of being one of the 15 most corrupt congress members and since 9 of the 15 named were Democrats, I presume the site is unbiased. Deal resigned from the House in March just prior to possible ethics charges.

She has simply stayed out of many races like the Colorado and Nevada senate races and let candidates whom she deemed acceptable and let them slug it out.

Are you suggesting we continually back RINOs because it's the safe thing to do?

I love it, if they’re going to spend a nanosecond trying to contest Alaska, in stead of trying to contain the bleeding in Washington, Wisconsin, California, West Virginia, Nevada... This is going to be hugh AND series.

The thing is, the tea party candidates will be prone to gaffes from time to time. For most of them, this is their first race, it’s to be understood. The PR savvy lifetime politicians will try to pounce on any missteps, but as long as the tea party candidates are true to themselves and make their positions clear to the voters, there is no way we can lose.

I do not want to see intensity lost over the over excitement of a few Rinos knocked over. The goal is to get these strong candidates over the finish line to save the country.

The most important outcome may be the chilling effect this will have on the other RINOs that are still in the Senate. If the RINOs know they will face primary challenges they may be less willing to sell out to the dems. After all even though Juan McAmnesty won his primary, it cost him over $20 million to do it. It will be much easier to keep the RINOs on the reservation when they know that every sellout will bring with it a Tea Party backed primary contestant.

Sorry, I voted in that election. FOR Deal. He was also my Congresscritter. I researched that group, CREW, after Palin endorsed Handel.

CREW is Soros-financed and its director, Melanie Sloan worked for Conyers, Schumer, and Biden before she was rewarded with a job as Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Columbia. She also represented Valerie Plame.

Do you REALLY want to take her word for it?
