Romer: Lack of 'Recovery Act signs' Fuels Public Perception of Obama Failure

Not enough of these signs have been seen around the country, feeding the public perception of failure of Obama's $862 billion stimulus spending, according to retiring chief economic adviser Christina Romer. Photo via CNS News.

Yes, that is what is in Christina Romer's farewell speech to be given later today at the National Press Club as she steps down as head of Obama's Council of Economic Advisers.

Reuters and USA Today report based on White House released excerpts previewing the speech:

"Because the final bill was a mixture of hundreds of measures, many of which don't come with Recovery Act signs or easily identifiable links to the Act, it is been hard for people to see what the Act has done," she said.

"But it is precisely because it works through existing programs and spreads funds widely that it could get out quickly and reap large benefits," Romer said.

Romer said she was "proud of the recovery actions we have taken" and said they made the difference between a second Great Depression and "a slow but genuine recovery."

CNS News reported earlier this month that the Obama administration is pressuring contractors to display Recovery Act signs such as this one:

It’s like Obama needs to have his initials on anything he touches to show he was there.”

Here on the ranch- it is called “Marking Territory”.
Stallion does his part.

Dog does his part.

Sooner or later, there is a ‘pee hole’ where they have marked over each other.

It proudly sits on top of the worst road paving I have ever seen.

It is uneven, there is loose gravel all over, and looks worse than it originally did.”

Affirmative Action union workers === On The Job Training done with inferior materials from a big Democrat donor???

They spent over $400,000 putting in a traffic circle/turnabout in a rural area when a traffic light would have served the purpose.””””

Those roundabouts are the latest craze in the ‘National Planners” who think that one size or one solution fits all.

Here in N Nevada, there have been 3 of them installed in the last few years. One in Fernley—one in Carson City near the hard core prison- one in Minden next to the high school.

The trucks here in Nevada can run ‘triples, which is a truck + a trailer + a trailer. Hay jaulers- UPS-Fed Ex re the most common. These are quite long. The truck drivers have complained from the beginning about how difficult it is to travel thru these roundabouts. They are just too long a vehicle set up for the size of the roundabout.
They pleaded to not have the one in Fernley built—the ‘NDOT engineers” told them to take another route. Here in rural Northern Nevada, there is not a choice of ‘another route’.

I would bet that left side tires are now being replaced more frequently on these truck units than ever before, as they ride up over the rounded ‘curb’, even at very slow speeds.

I haul a 4 horse trailer & I hate the damn things. They are very intimidating, with the speed of the other vehicles entering at 3 other points, & trying to not toss the horses around inside the trailer. Once I get into the roundabout, I set the speed I want to not jostle the horses. Entering is a bitch.

I never really thought of big trucks and trailers. I can see how they would have difficulty getting through the traffic circle. I’m now trying to picture a big moving truck (tractor-trailer) trying to get through there or a horse trailer like you have. I can see how it would be a pain in the neck!

Come to think of it, that must be where the economic recovery is...

For a fact, it's where a lot of the stimulus money went. cha ching

I’m sure AG Holder is looking into this as we speak.
Or, perhaps the current Congress is starting an inquiry...

PennDot rebuilt a bridge here and the work was being finished around the time of the Porkulus passing. They actually had 2 of these signs installed after traffic had already been going over the bridge again and the workers were sweeping up. This work was finished way before the stimulus.
