As reported in the article, the Trumbull county board of elections today will certify that Jim Traficant has 11 signatures more than necessary to qualify as an independent candidate for U.S. Rep. for the 17th Ohio congressional district.
Unfortunately, Traficant is likely to take most of his votes from GOP-leaning voters and this benefits Democrat Ryan.

How many could that be? Who in their right mind would vote for this bizarre dude?
I'm not saying the he's a desirable candidate; but, he will likely be the only viable challenge to Ryan.
Yes, he's bizarre, but look at it this way: suppose that your choices are a crook who hates the establishment and a snake who is part of the establishment. Which one do you vote for? Ryan is a lapdog for Pelosi.
Voting for Traficant may be the only way to dislodge Ryan. Yes, it's all strange; think blue, a labor union sea of blue.

I see your point, and I thank God I’m not part of that electorate.
I don’t usually name drop, but since it is late at night and not many people will read this, I will tell you that Jim is a friend of mine. Yes, he did get in trouble, but he has a good heart and he is hillarious and harmless. Even with a criminal record, he is more ethical than most long-term career politicians. His crimes are a good reason for term limits. Eventually, all these career POLs ease into grayer and grayer areas of ethics. Not an excuse, but like OJ Simpson, I don’t agree with what he did but I understand it.
Sheriff Jim was one of the highest vote-getters in the state of OH for any House district (and at least one time got more actual votes than any other in the state), so a lot of people voted for this dude. I have to admit to being a fan of his, but whether he can make it back to Congress as an Indy is another story.
The Republican that is running in this race, Jim Graham, is a solid conservative with at least one Tea Party endorsement. And he has a strong, colorful personality in his own right. It looks to be a fun election to watch.
What did he do that the rest of these bastards havent?
The answer is nothing. I would take him over any democrat any day.
He seems to be a criminal sociopath, and that sociopathic charm carries him a long way with the gullible and cult minded. The man is also a liberal that defeated a 3 term republican to take his seat.
“Although he voted against every single article of impeachment against the 42nd President, Traficant apparently felt recriminations for his many attacks were inevitably going to come from an administration run by his fellow Democrats and he began to vote increasingly on the right. Traficants lifetime American Conservative Union rating was 27% in 1998. His ACU rating for 1999 was 52% and for 2000 was 60%.”
