Imam Behind Park51 Ignores Low-Income Tenants Pleas, They Say

The Muslim imam who plans to build a controversial Islamic center near Ground Zero should first take on a smaller project, like ridding his New Jersey apartment buildings of rats and bedbugs, angry tenants told ABCNews.com.

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf owns buildings across the Hudson River in several New Jersey cities, including Union City, North Bergen and Palisades Park, which he reportedly renovated with tax dollars.

Residents, many of whom are immigrants and most of whom are working-class Hispanic Catholics, say they have complained about unsanitary conditions for years. The imam, however, has done little to make repairs or exterminate vermin, they claim.

"There are bed bugs and a lot of rats," said Jane Thane, 17, who has lived at 2206 Central Ave., Union City for three years, after her former home, also owned by Rauf, burned down. "Last week we catched six rats in the apartment."

Thane said five other family members share the three bedroom apartment and many of their neighbors have been forced to throw away mattresses and linens because of bed bug infestations.

Thane said her parents have complained to the building's superintendent and Rauf's wife Daisy Khan, but nothing has ever been done.

.....

New Jersey newspaper The Record first reported the conditions at Rauf's apartment buildings after pouring through "page after page of municipal health [that] show repeated complaints ranging from failure to pick up garbage, to rat and bedbug infestations and no heat and hot water."

The paper's investigation shows that the controversial $100 million cultural center and mosque called Park51 and slated to be built just two blocks away from Ground Zero is not the first real estate project with which the imam has been involved, but it is far and away the largest.

Is this guy on every dole administered by Obama Inc (formerly USA)?

We've got to hang the story of how much this creep steals from us... we've got to hang that story around the neck of every dim running in 2010.

Yes, the State Dept folks saw the guy’s “potential” when he made an appearance at the Aspen Institute, and Sec of State Powell may have been impressed by him from there. Feisal Rauf did go abroad as part of a larger group tour back then courtesy the state dept, I believe.

it's a HUD/RAT thing.
Before Katrina the local paper was investigating the slum lords of the ninth. The majority of houses in the area were own by three corporations. Seem that Papa Landreau, who organized HUD under Carter was in the thick of it, teaching others how to get rich with government money. Charge high rent on bad housing.

Every time I see a clip of those destroyed houses in the ninth it makes want to cheer. Now the owners no longer are taking advantage of the poor and US.

Same MO was used by Val Jarrett, Rezko and BO’s minion in Chicago....as I said it's a RAT/HUD marriage.

Middle Easterners make lousy landlords, and they now own tons of “lower income” marginal rental properties. Not only don’t they give a darn about the tenants (and it’s true that most landlords don’t care about their tenants), they don’t even care about the law and they just ignore fines and citations.

Neighbors should help him out by equalizing bedbug residency among all his properties, by transplanting bedbugs from his locations with surpluses to those with shortages.

I suspect the Imam will shortly be crying “uncle” on the mosque project. I don’t think he was planning on a daily drip-drip-drip of his personal business in the press.

Case and point, a house on my block that is owned by a Syrian realtor. He is a Christian, and not a disagreable sort in person. But he puts zero maintenance into the place. Doors and siding are literally falling off and he has a tree about ready to grow right through the windows on one side. Really stands out as it is the only home in the neighborhood that looks like Detroit after Devils Night.

Maybe the New York health department should start enforcing the health laws.

And if you think the building is full of vermin now, just wait to see the vermin if it becomes a mosque.

The Ground Zero Imam’s Troubling Texts

http://frontpagemag.com/2010/09/01/the-ground-zero-imams-troubling-texts/

[....]

It is on this specific assertion that Rauf departs from secular democratic ideals.

Writing in Islam: A Sacred Law, What Every Muslim Should Know About Sharia, he points out the difference between the American government based on man-made law, and an Islamic system, which Allah authored:

God’s role in the explicit philosophical construct of the law makes a big difference between the modus operandi of a righteous Muslim judge in a Muslim court and a righteous Western judge in a Western court. […]

The Muslim judge explicitly “reports to God.”

The judge who sits in the Western court is only explicitly responsible to the Constitution, the interpretations of a civil law and its rules.

Rauf, then, is endorsing a theocracy in which there is no separation between religion and state.

Indeed, he goes even further in his argument, claiming that religious Sharia law must govern all aspects of human life:

[S]ince a Sharia is understood as a law with God at its center, it is not possible in principle to limit the Sharia to some aspects of human life and leave out others. […]

The sharia thus covers every field of law – public and private, national and international – together with enormous amounts of material that Westerners would not regard as law at all…

Among the fields of law Rauf claims must be governed by Sharia are laws controlling religious observances, criminal law (which, according to the Imam, “includes crimes such as murder, larceny, fornication, drinking alcohol, libel”), family law, and economic laws.

According to him it is imperative that these laws be followed by all humanity for fear of displeasing God:

…if you don’t want to be accused by God of being a depraved, disbelieving wrongdoer, you’ve got to abide by “what Allah has sent down…”

Rauf’s book also describes the punishments that must be meted out to those who disobey Sharia:

Theft, for which the punishment according to the Quranic rule is:

“As for the male thief and the female thief, cut off their hands, as a punishment for what they have earned, an exemplary punishment from Allah…”

The punishment for a fornicator, not bound by marriage, is according to the majority of jurists one hundred lashes of the whip and exile for one year.

Rauf diverges irredeemably from the core American principle separating religion and government in a secular democracy.

For all the talk of his constitutional right to build a mosque, Rauf’s writings reveal his desire to ultimately extirpate the 1st Amendment (as well as the 21st) from the Constitution.

No American, especially not self-described liberals like Maureen Dowd, should wish to see this happen.
